E92 squeaky passenger seat
Discussion
Not the most major of issue, but rather annoying. My E92 M3 passenger seat when empty squeaks like mad! I’ve tried everything I can think of, every permutation of seat position including the back almost horizontal. I’ve checked all the bolts are tight and applied WD to anything I can see, any thoughts what it could be. I’ve never had a seat do it, or a rattle as loud, it detracts from the V8!
Any thoughts please, amusing ones too, and no it’s not pesky mice, I hope!
Cheers

Mine does it, too!
I think it must be something to do with the seat-back latch mechanism, as when someone sits in the passenger seat (so applying some pressure to the seat back) the noise goes away.
Have you looked on e90post.com? There was a long thread on rattle fixes, that might cover this, but it takes ages to read through all the posts.

Mine’s an M6, but I had a squeak too. basically, the right-hand bolster was rubbing against the centre console. Adjusting the lumbar in in the seat so it was ‘tighter’ & then storing it in the memory (so it didn’t move back upon lock/relock - figuring that one out took me a bit longer
) sorted it. Yours may be completely different, but it’s just a thought...

Thanks for that, appreciated. Though I've moved the seat up/down/back etc in all permutations as I don't tend to alter the bolster on the drivers side I think I've not tried that on the passenger side, cheers.
In answer to the previous post I've booked it into my local BM dealer for a potential claim on the warranty, it's £162 for them to look at it and assess the issue.......
Ridiculous!

I will be really very surprised if this is covered by the BMW warranty. Trim, adjustments etc are specifically excluded. In answer to the previous post I've booked it into my local BM dealer for a potential claim on the warranty, it's £162 for them to look at it and assess the issue.......

Happy to be surprised, though, because I can then get mine in to be fixed!

Agreed, the warranty document specifies trim is excluded, are seats trim, I rather fear they are.Happy to be surprised, though, because I can then get mine in to be fixed!
Problem is both when I rang BMW & the dealer all they'd say is you need to bring it in for us to assess if it's a warranty claim, and if so you'll get your £168 back.....
Like yours mines almost perfect when someone's in the seat, so I've put a large book in to see if that makes a difference. Interestingly I picked up a mate over the weekend, a fairly big guy and I could still hear it, just....
