Not sure where this belongs, topic-wise but anyway....
Anyone been to Disney on Ice over the Christmas period?
We’re taking CFK2 tomorrow evening and I’m just wondering what to expect and what carrot we can dangle in front of Junior.
Im assuming Disney’s big five will be included along with the bigger hits....Snow White, Beauty & the Beast, Lion King, Toy Story, bloody Frozen (obviously

I've been to a few of them in previous years. The views have been good but the flashy toys, food and drink are overpriced - I think a light up plastic sword was about £20.
With the show they do an intro then do around 4 or 5 mini shows depending on what theme it is before they do the outro.

We saw it in Exeter earlier in the year, the show is great, my daughter was on the edge of her seat the whole time. As mentioned above, the toys etc are ridiculously priced. I bought her a flashing wand from amazon for £6 which she loved.
We stopped down the road and bought drinks and snacks, I think cans of coke were £2.50 each and £2 for a bag of crisps. They make a killing for sure.

We went a couple of days ago. My daughter enjoyed it.
There's the usual premise of some kind with Mickey, Minnie, Daffy and Pluto. There was also a group dance with all the main Princesses (not Anna or Elsa). An Aladdin sequence, Lion King sequence, Beauty and the Beast sequence, Finding Dory sequence, Toy Story sequence, Mulan sequence and a Frozen sequence. I think that's it.
Popcorn starts at £5 for a small box. Candy Floss was £9 for a bag with a foam princess crown. Flashing wand things are £22 upwards. Water was £3.50 a bottle and you aren't allowed any food or drink in.
We bought water, popcorn and candy floss as I was expecting some kind of expensive sundries. We had discussed the wands in advance.
The time on your ticket is the start time and they start promptly.
We went to Las Iguanas in the O2 afterwards for food, which was only doing an event menu so it was 2 courses for £20. Food was lovely but the service was best described as muddled. They added a 15% tip to the bill. I elected to leave approx 7% tip instead.

I love a challenge.I find the idea that a paying audience isn’t “allowed” to take even basic items and especially water in to an event is one of the ways the O2 manages to ruin a night out.
Had similar when we went to see the Monty Python farewell show.
The “security” cretins, in a weak attempt to justify what is so very clearly a marketing strategy, were trying to push the idea that bottles of water weren’t allowed as the caps “had been used as missiles during a previous performance”. You could take water in a bottle but had to surrender the cap to the guards.....I mean stewards. Gotta get up earlier than that unfortunately. Friends of ours had been the night before so, pre-warned, I simply took a spare bottle cap hidden on my person. Not difficult.
Perhaps if refreshments weren't so horrifically priced in these places and the audience not subjected to prison rules they’d actually sell more as people wouldn’t feel so utterly shafted and conned in to buying fare with a 500% mark up.

Well if anyone else is going or thinking of....
It was pretty good overall, certainly up to the usual Disney production standards.
Bit of an intro featuring Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy, followed by several set-piece sequences loosely telling several of Disney’s bigger hits.
The theme is “100 Years of Magic” but after Pinocchio everything was from the last 30 years.
There was also a Disney Princess bit..(Dads take note
)..Snow White, Cinderella, the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Aladdin, the Princess and the Frog.
Long Frozen sequence (the main event I’d suggest) plus Finding Nemo, Toy Story (which I thought was rather poorly done) Aladdin, with the Lion King leading in to the finale.
Some of the segments are story-telling, others are more about showcasing the skating but all good. The skaters were very good, with some genuinely impressive jumps, spins and lifts. Easily as good as anything you see at the Olympics (from a layman’s PoV).
Special mention has to go to the skater lumbering around trying to look menacing yet graceful in a full Beast costume on ice skates. Can’t be easy.
Good special effects with pyrotechnics a plenty and artificial snow at times.
Can’t say I’d rush back to the O2 as a venue itself. Twenty years old and starting to look rather tired. It’s a bloody maze inside too and also appears to have become the hang out of choice for the local yoofs, innit, who just loiter around the outer perimeter looking morose. Great start to a show aimed at under-5s.
The food and drink thing.....yeah, whatever. We took an empty collapsible water bottle (which the O2 will refill for free) and had a family size bag of choccy buttons and two bananas wrapped up in CFK Jnr’s spare jumper in the bottom of a small backpack. Got a cursory glance inside but wasn’t fully unpacked so the food got through ok.
The souvenirs were a mixed bag. The soft toys seemed relatively good value at £8-22 depending on size.
The souvenir drinks bottles were a rip off at a tenner for a plastic beaker shaped like Buzz Lightyear’s head or whatever, filled with ice, splashed with a glug of flavouring syrup.
Some inconsiderate pillock at the end of our row split their frozen drink thingy early on which subsequently melted, flooded everywhere, coating the floor with sticky syrup. Obviously they said and did absolutely nothing, leaving people to find out for themselves that their bags/feet had become glued to the floor
