Good UK Places To Tour
Discussion
Okay, so I know this is going to be subjective, but does anyone have favourite places to tour in a vette?
I'm thinking of a 3-4 day or perhaps up to a week trip in the UK. I'm not particularly wanting roads to thrash on but neat scenery, relative isolation, places to stop off along the way that are vette-friendly.
My first thought is either to just say 'what the heck' and drive all around the perimeter of the country, or else to drive up the middle, toodle around Scotland and then come back to London.

New Forest(lyndhurst, brockenhust, lymington etc),christchurch to poole taking in as many coastal roads as you can then go around sandbanks then onto weymouth gives you a real holiday feel and loads of sea air.
I find thes areas take you thru so many time warps ,at bucklers hard in the new forest was where the 1st ships were made from the New Forest timbers and the two rows of houses are laid out each side of the ship they were building, christchurch and its priory is very historic then thru to Boscombe and Bournemouth again gives a holiday touch ,Poole Harbour and the pubs on the quay give off the nautical feel the pottery is open for tours.

North Wales is supposed to be good as is Scotland for about 5 minutes between Winter and the next Winter.
Yup, did north wales last year & it's well up on my places to tour in the Vette at some point. The police are very hot on speeding in that area.
Another good place to see would be the lake district (it all depends what you're looking for though) & if you do it in the autumn it's apparently really scenic.
North Devon is also a good place to tour around, esp. Exmoor & the seaside villages of Lynmouth & Lynton. If you're down that area then head west to north Cornwall (AVOID Lands End, it's commercialised tack heaven). Tintagel, Boscastle, Padstow, etc, etc are well worth seeing (don't bother heading that way if the weather is bad!) & the coastline (if you're into that sort of thing) is very rugged. The roads in that area are far more "Vette friendly" than they used to be, although the weather can be bad, what with the moors (Dartmoor & Bodmin - worth a look on a nice day) & the Atlantic ocean all doing their utmost to wash the entire county away. The cornish beer IS bad, no arguement!
One area to definately see if you're "Oop north" is the north Yorkshire moors, as used in many TV shows.
cheers

I think Wales is a bit over-rated and I live here. Pleasant scenery but nowhere to stop. If anywhere in Wales then mid to North Wales or West Wales but I spent 3 years at Bangor University and it's all too much dark dank slate for me and not enough to do. Lot of traffic in the summer too. We did a tour of Wales at Easter and I'd definitely say Scotland.
If Scotland is too far, the Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines would be my choice. Avoid the Lake District in the summer too if you're over that way. I went to see Wordsworth's cottage once and he was out.

YOU COULD START ON OXFORD STREET AND TRAVEL SOUTH DOWN THROUGH PICADDILLY, TAKING IN THE LOVELY VIEWS OF DICKENS & JONES, AND THEN TRAVEL EAST ON SHAFTSBURY AVENUE, ENJOYING THE GORGEOUS AND PICTURESQUE THEATRES OLD AND NEW. THEN AFTER A QUICK DETOUR THROUGH HISTORIC COVENT GARDEN MAYBE GO NORTH UP TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD ENJOYING THE TECHNOLOGICAL DELIGHTS OF ASIA AND THE FAR EAST.
THAT SHOULD TAKE ABOUT 3-4 DAYS......

Agreed, that is one of the most satisfying leisurely <ahem> drives in the country.
That's why I thought for a week's vacation I should allocate 3 or so days just to tour from central London to the M25 :-)

YES, BUT YOU SEE THAT'S HOW ROUTE WORKS. YOU'LL ONLY BE DOING ABOUT 4 MILES OVER THE WHOLE TRIP ! THROW IN A SANDWICH AND A PAPER AND EVEN INCLUDING £1.30 DARLING THEFT, STILL LABOUT A FIVER A DAY !
(MIND YOU SITING AT IDLE IN A VETTE ALL DAY WILL EAT UP THE JUICE, DAMM, NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT)
