Scam call from Amazon?

Had a call with an automated voice saying that my Amazon prime membership will be renewed at £39.99 but if I wanted to talk to someone about it to press 1.

I pay my prime membership monthly and I don't recall any prime fees at £39.99 so I ended the cal and blocked the number.

Anyone else had this?

Google doesn't throw up any information on the number and Amazon just wanted me to report it to Action Fraud which I've done.

The number that was shown in my landline caller ID is 01488 646276.

As an aside Action Fraud don't make it easy to submit a report to them, a right long winded way of doing things and not many options unless you have actually lost money.

Currently getting this call almost daily.
I guess if you press 1 they ask for bank details and bingo!

O/H signed up mid-December and I took that call a week or two afterwards. I hung up and we've heard nothing since.

We get this call a few times a week on our landline. Used to say 79.99 today's call was 39.99.

I ignore all of them, but I bet they get a few people that don't have amazon prime and worry they are about to be charged.

As it is hard to make an order on Amazon nowadays without concentrating very hard on NOT signing up to Prime, I guess the scammers are betting on a lot of people thinking they have screwed up and somehow signed up to a contract.

I get this call frequently.

I am sure there is information about this if you Google it.

We got a new one today, an energy saver scam call purporting to come from Offgem. I think (at least as far as land lines go) you can more or less assume that any call remotely like this is a scam.

I get a lot of emails re my direct debit for my TV licence.

I pay up front once a year, but I bet a lot get caught, blood scammers.

I did respond to one with a few choice words to get one back saying "Don't be so rude to an old lady"

Yep - both my daughter and I get this exact call sometimes 5 times per week. Given that neither of us have, or ever had, Prime, we hang up in the first few seconds of the call.

Tried to block the number but it comes from a different one every time.

You get a human (account Manager) on the line. This is useful, as you can then scream down the phone (or use a whistle) and they won't call you again (or at least the calls have dropped from 8 a week to zero, just by coincidence ).

I always waste their time, give incorrect but plausible details, they will then waste time with variations etc.

If every one wasted their time, they’d scam less vulnerable folk fewer times

If you're on BT call 1572 immediately after, follow the instructions, and the caller will be barred in future.

I often get these calls and am wary of pressing 1, just in case, but if it only directs me to a human I guess that means open season has just started.

Each call I've had has been from a different number (one was even our local dial code!) so probably no benefit by blocking them. I've logged each one with 'who called' and each has no previous logs against it. They have a 'random number' calling the recipient's 'random number'?
Very annoying whatever.
I had someone call yesterday enquiring if I wanted PATS testing doing (not a scam, but a cold call, and he was politely told I wasn't interested), but the scammers are in a different league and deserve anything you can throw at them figuratively speaking.

Working at home I get 2 or 3 calls scam every day and they're always different numbers. On my desk phone it's got 2 lines of caller ID - often the number will look like a valid mobile or it'll be same area code as me, but the second line will say "International".

I always think it's a bad idea to respond as it marks your number out as being live, but whether that's valid or not I have no idea.

I don't answer the phone if I don't recognise the number. Solves most problems.

That may be valid - I pressed 1 and tried to get them to delete my number, and then the calls were more frequent the next week. Having then pressed 1 on a call a week later when I subsequently made a very loud noise, they've not called again. I live in hope...... that they (or the FBI on their behalf) won't call

In about 10 calls, it's only come up as international once. Each time the recording sounded the same.
