Auction house in the news again

Opens up a whole can of worms. When I sold a car via auction they made no checks to what I declared had been done to the car.

Reported in Telegraph also. Surprised the auction house rolled over in first instance. Always thought the purpose of an auction was for an auction house to place a car from a vendor that was often terrible, but due to the terms and conditions, you bought it fella and tough luck....and if that playbook did not work the vendor and not auction house was the person to be sued.

Could be wrong, and only an opinion (due not sue me Mr Pohl), but the phrase "Due Diligence" might have avoided all this?

Also, wasn't there a legal case about a Ferrari 250 GTO gearbox the other week? I thought owning a classic should be fun. Perhaps it is only about the willy waving...

I got an email from one of the auction houses last week (can't remember which one) to say in future all their cars will have a new MOT, after they were offered a 'perfect' car, which turned out to be rotten, so they passed, and it ended up in another sale a few weeks later, as 'perfect' again.

I know it's not quite the same, but it was at a different end of the market, and does reflect the bullish attitude upon which auction houses trade.

Surely only a complete idiot would spend that much on a car without viewing - probably too busy to do it himself, but if you can afford 400k you can afford a few quid to get someone to check it for you, I've never even bought a £500 shed without looking at it!
