Flashed by a camera, moved house... What next?

I recently was flashed by a camera. First time in years, on a road I used to drive a lot once upon a time. The camera didn't used to be there! Anyhow, fair cop etc. but I moved house during the time period that you'd be waiting for a ticket to drop through the letterbox.

As I'm useless and forgot to set up a mail redirect in the moving chaos (it all happened very quickly in the end as there was a hold up in the sale chain that suddenly got resolved), I have no way of knowing if I've received an NIP. Obviously I don't want to be seen as failing to respond if I have.

What is the correct next course of action? Should I try to figure out which "Safety Partnership" it is and just write to them to ask if I have been caught? I'm not sure what else I can do beyond that.

Have you updated your V5 address with DVLA?

I’d get that done first pretty sharpish if not. Then I’d contact the new owner of your last house and ask them to forward any mail.

I presume you've notified the DVLA about your change of address on both the V5 and your licence?

I'm afraid I haven't yet. We moved about a week before Christmas. It's on the list for this week.

Agreed. Can't imagine the police/DVLA being too impressed if they realise your delay in updating your details during the NIP process. Whether they'll do anything is another matter.

When I moved last I used the Royal Mail redelivery service. It caught everything 48 hours after commencement

I'd set that up now in the OP's position, as well as updating the V5.

How proactive do you want to be?

As suggested contact the DVLA today and you could even try the local sorting office to see if there is any mail returned waiting for you.

Or just sit back and do nothing and keep your fingers crossed.

After the first nip isn't responded to in the first month they'll send another. Change your address now and the second nip should go to your new address.

Edit. Obviously change your address at the post office as well.

That only works for stuff that needs signing for or stuff that’s too big for the letterbox isn’t it?

It won’t work for regular mail, that needs the redirection service.

That really is bum info mate, no guarantees at all that they will send a reminder, they may well go straight to a FTF charge

OP, as I asked earlier, what was the date you were actually flashed?

If there is no response then the ticket office staff often check the MID and send a reminder. Make sure your insurance company is aware of your new address.

Not to mention all the other agencies, insurance, DWP, etc. Mail re-direct is pretty much a no-brainer at completion, or even before. Completion can be accomplished two weeks after exchange of contracts nowadays.

Indeed, but I'm not sure the OP should rely on that happening and of course if the MID has also not been updated then any reminder will go the same way as the original. I think the OP need to be a bit more proactive, the date he was flashed could be quite important to gather some sort of timeline, but he has not been forthcoming with that info yet.
