Heads up re V5 and V5C

No doubt good advice, unsorted, well forewarned by DVLA but perhpas not well publicised.
See their website https://www.gov.uk/government/news/dvla-encourages... and the warning:

"DVLA has now completed automatic roll out of the red vehicle registration certificate (V5C). ..... DVLA also recommends that any buyer offered a second hand vehicle with a blue V5C gets the seller to replace the document with a red one from DVLA before they part with any money for the vehicle."

The DVLA don't seem to be very consistent. I recently obtained a new V5C, changed address, and registered as historic a car that is in pieces and that I've had off the road since pre-SORN. The old V5 had been lost. I sent DVLA their forms V62, V10 and V112 (I don't remember exactly what they are now), a photocopy of the old V5, a heritage certificate proving the date of manufacture and a cheque for £25. It took them a few weeks, but they produced a correct V5C.

The car was still in their database before I applied as it came up on DVLA tax & MoT checks.
