Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on here so be easy on me!

I've just had my 02 tip 996 diagnosed with some light scoring using a boroscope.

The garage I took it to are a local garage but do specialise in porsche.

The fault happened after my water pump broke and engine overheated in slow moving traffic. I'm pretty sure the engine only overheated for a minute but I couldn't turn the engine off and stop where I was but pulled in as soon as I could.

After getting the pump fixed the garage had a boroscope done after a suspicious tapping sound began.

My worst fears had been confirmed as the 5th and 6th cylinder were scored. The engineer did say though that it was very light and didn't warrant too much concern.

His opinion was that it could go 2 ways: get worse to the point that the engine needs to be replaced or rebuilt, or the fault might FIX ITSELF...

He said there is a chance that with it being light scoring the cylinder might correct itself but after looking online I can't see anyone else talking about this.

His recommendation was that I drive it and check the oil every week but I don't know...

I'd appreciate any insight you guys might have!

Nick

~Hi and welcome. I think fixing itself is a bit too much to hope for!

Personally i would probably keep running it and keep an eye on oil level and get the oil checked by Millers: http://www.millersoils.co.uk/services/oil-analysis assuming the engine isn't too noisy or chucking out excessive smoke?

The big question is do you love it enough to go for a full Hartech rebuild ?
