Could open the gates for tin foil sales, given the timing.

Tragic news - the pictures on https://www.avherald.com/h?article=4d1aea51&op... are very sobering too.

Whats that about? Holiday makers? Contractors? People just getting the hell out in case of war?
Dual Iranian/Canadian citizens most likely 'getting out' and going for a connecting flight - I read this airline provided low cost connections to Toronto.Whats that about? Holiday makers? Contractors? People just getting the hell out in case of war?
Incredibly suspicious. Let's see if Iran deems any international investigative authority 'impartial' enough to be handed the evidence. I doubt it very much. They have already said Boeing won't be getting their hands on the flight recorders.

There's a big Iranian community in Toronto - https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/protesters-... so Iran wouldn't be to upset with those going down on the plane.Whats that about? Holiday makers? Contractors? People just getting the hell out in case of war?
Turbine disc disintegration is very unpredictable. RR had a spate of failures a while back and some were catestrophic, others more similar to that photo.

And any errant blade parts tend to knacker hydraulic systems... Aussie Flight 32 is a good read for how bad it can get / and resilient some crews are.

That report from the Herald has a video showing it on fire before going down.
As said seems strange the crew did not report anything.
My father had a bird strike that took out an engine. He said there is plenty to do but still time to simply radio 'Bird strike'. No need for anything else at that time so if the worst happened at least some clue was on record.

er, blade shedding is unpredictable, disc disintegration is very predictable, as basically, it CANNOT be contained! (too much energy)FoD or parts of the upstream engine that have come loose could very well get punched through the turbine stator if they get jammed between turbine and stator etc

Flight 32 wasn't a blade failure, it was a disc failure. There is no way a disc failure would look like that photo of that CFM.E. G. https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/photos/image-gal...

You might need to translate that. I assume that is a seeker head from an anti-aircraft missile?BREAKING: This image which is now being circulated in #Iranian social media is claimed to be showing seeker of a 9M331 missiles launched by an #IRGC|ASF's To-M1 SAM system at Flight #PS752 of #Ukraine Intl Airlines resulting explosion of Boeing 737-8KV (UR-PSR) today in #Iran.

Apparently the front end of an anti-aircraft missile (the bit that contains the radar). Found approximately 1km from the crash site.Edited by scottydoesntknow on Wednesday 8th January 23:07
Was in the process of looking it up
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_missile_system
I think it's a slam dunk now that it was brought down by a ground to air missile.
