I'm looking at a KTM 690 Duke '09, it has had a new exhaust (they are short and under slung so I presume it's also decat)

I assume it needs a remap ?

I'm fairly sure it hasn't been done so presumably it's running lean, it hasn't done many miles so if it rides ok is there an issue ?

Is it easiest to remap at a Dealer or Aftermarket ?

(I'm new to road bikes)

Generally, an "end can" will not need a remap (either power commander or an ECU retune). If you replace the entire system, then you need the fueling adjusted.

BUT!

There are gains to be had in terms of power, throttle smoothness and even fuel economy by optimising the engine mapping from the manufacturers (which can often come with compromises for emissions regulations) so it is worth doing anyway, even if it doesnt strictly require it form a reliability viewpoint.

On the 09 Duke, the end can is pretty much the entire system

Have it remapped. Go to reputable tuning place with a dynometer (dealerships dont usually have this facility, but places like JHS racing in bristol provide this service as part of their worksop facilities and racing operations)
