Hi All,

I have a Forerunner 245 and it really is a cracking bit of kit.

The battery lasts very well, but I was just wondering, what is the best way to maintain battery condition longevity ? This isn't about battery usage, but rather, about how to keep the battery itself in good condition whilst I own the watch.

Is it best, to keep the battery fully, or almost fully charged, by perhaps putting it on charge every day ? Or will the battery last better, if it is allowed to drain fully, or almost fully - say, down to 5-10 % and then re-charge it ? Is there a recommended way, to keep the battery in good condition ?

Out of interest, how many years will it take, before the battery loses the capacity to charge and is it feasible to get it replaced, or is it just best to buy a new watch ?

Thank you for any guidance provided.

I would just charge daily.

Lithium ion batteries dislike being run too low to empty.

I just recently sold a Garmin 935 that I'd had since 2017, used daily in 2017 and 2018 and barely used in 2019. The battery was still more than up to scratch when I sold it.

I've had my Forerunner 235 for about 18 months now and it's still going strong on the battery front, worn daily.

I just charge it when it's less than 25% or telling me it wants charging. Lasts ages between charges so to me it seems a bit pointless charging it daily.

Pretty sure some testing was done a while ago on various devices and the answer was don't let drop below 50% and stop charging at 95%.

I currently have a 245 and intend to keep it as least until the replacement model is released (4-5 years). One thing I'm not concerned with is the battery's ability to hold a charge. They don't seem to lose capacity like say a phone battery.

I have a 245, and this is my approach. Have only had it 6 months. Lasts days even with a couple of workouts.

I had an old Tom Tom that I had for 5 years until it packed in (not battery). It was too ugly to wear every day so I just used to leave it in my gym bag and treat it the same. I let it go dead several times and it survived.

I guess battery tech is pretty decent these days.
