My friend's Dad put £10,000 lump sum into Barclays Sterling Bond R Dis GBP as an ISA in 1996. It was a pension lump sum, and my friend's dad can't remember even investing it as he is 87 and his memory is now very poor.

The current value is £7,200, and in this period he has received roughly £3,000 in dividends/payments out of the scheme.

I can't seem to go back further that 2012 to see what has happened to the Bond price. I am told he has made no withdrawals apart from the dividends/payments out of the scheme.

This seems very poor performance, it has gone up in value by a third since 2012 yes is worth less than he initially paid 23 years later.

I doesn't seem right to me, very poor performance any thoughts? Friend spoke to Barclays and says that they said it was because of the bank crash in 2008 as I presume these are linked to Barclays shares.
