I have never owned either a sandwich toaster or a grill type thing. So I've just ordered one.

Frivolous purchase - or a valuable addition to a recently single mans kitchen?

My kitchen doesn't feature a grill of any sort, an Aga and that's it. I'm thinking toasted sandwiches, maybe a steak or two, some burgers.... not entirely sure as I'm not a cook by any stretch of the imagination. smile

We have one, personally I think it's a pain in the arse and doesn't work nearly as well as advertised... however the wife likes cooking with it.

Whenever I use it to do sausages I seem to burn the outside whilst the inside stays raw... I'm sticking with more conventional cooking methods.

It is however, relatively easy to clean.

Had one for a year and primarily use for butterflied chicken breasts - just the way I like it, charred outside and juicy inside.

I don't rate it for steak over a cast iron griddle and I don't rate it for breakfast food or gammon steaks over a conventional grill.

I had a George Foreman grill years ago, and it wasn't bad, but the Tefal Optigrill I have now is far better.

Removable platens make cleaning much easier.

Probably better to use a griddle on the floor of the roasting oven.

I do dat. Just fancied a new toy. It wasn't at all expensive, but it sounds like it might live in a cupboard!

We got one in the sale, works a treat. Have been toasting sandwiches, burgers, put halloumi on it the other day. All went absolutely fine and also means we dont have to worry about blocking up the oven space with this stuff and having to awkwardly clean it afterwards and a soft sponge just wipes clean the GF.

I will probably toast my first sandwich tomorrow night. Yes, I live on the ragged edge.

Any tips?

Picked one up from Aldi for next to nothing before Christmas and used it half a dozen times for steaks, it's brilliant! 6 minutes and perfect rib-eye everytime smile

We have one of these https://www.johnlewis.com/breville-vst071-duracerm... which we picked up from Costco to replace an ancient Timothy Whites version.

It works really well. Great for toasted sandwiches, cooking bacon, etc.
