An inmate suspected of attacking an officer at a maximum security prison was jailed for planning to behead a soldier, the BBC has learned.
He is understood to be Brusthom Ziamani, 24, who was found guilty of preparing an act of terrorism in 2015 .
The attack at HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire, in which four other prison staff were injured, happened as cells were unlocked.
One officer was slashed and stabbed, the others had rushed to help.
Ziamani was assisted by another prisoner, a Muslim convert who was serving time for a violent offence.
Both inmates were wielding bladed weapons and wearing fake suicide vests during the attack.

There is train of thought out there that de radicalisation doesn’t really work, so I’d imagine this incident will become one of the case studies in support of that theory.
That aside, how one obtains materials for, makes and hides an ‘Improvised bladed weapon’ let alone fake suicide vests? FFS.

When all you have to do all day is sit and work out how to make something it becomes quite easyThat aside, how one obtains materials for, makes and hides an ‘Improvised bladed weapon’ let alone fake suicide vests? FFS.
Just shows yet again that Islamic extremists cannot be 'de-radicalinsed'. Their cult is so encompassing that its everything they stand for, and are willing to die for it at the drop of the hat.
Post leaving the EU, surely we could do a deal with the USA and get them off to a secluded island somewhere, I would be happy to crowdfund.

This is just a symptom of facts no Western European nation wants to address;
- the fact that an increasing proportion of serious, organised crime and terrorism within these nations is now being waged by immigrants
- the fact that Islamic terrorists begin from a point from which there is no deradicalisation
- the fact that Islamic extremism is still being taught in schools - see recent segregation of sexes in Birmigham school, unchecked

Its prison, you can get anything. If you cant get it, you can make it from other things you can get.The prison officers really don't care, half the time they are involved in bringing stuff in.

I'd love to know how the de-radicalisation process works and what format it takes. That aside, how one obtains materials for, makes and hides an ‘Improvised bladed weapon’ let alone fake suicide vests? FFS.

Wasn't the terrorist who did the 2 recent stabbings next to the London bridge allegedly de radicalised? I mean he said he was and smiled nicely _ so that's proof enuff innit?
No need for weapons screening at the event....
seriously though - must be massive incentive for accomplished deceptive liars - how do you know someone has genuinely de radicalised?
You take just any religion and, at the most dogmatic and extreme end of its spectrum, you can use that religion to de-humanise non believers, or even incite hatred - of non-believers, other religions, women, homosexuals etc. etc. - even to encourage follower to the point of committing acts of violence and, at the very extreme, mass terror.
I really do mean any religion, because even Buddhism (okay, not strictly a religion, but it is) has had its atrocities.
The trouble with Islam is, it seems incredible ripe for that sort of abuse. The grooming gangs being a case in point. This is not what any religion necessarily is, but mysogeny, homophobia, religious intolerance are not far beneath the surface of many interpretations of it.
To de-radicalise someone fully would require a paradigm shift in their whole interpretation of their belief.
