New-ish Red Swift - Paint Failure?

First off, I know this thread really needs pictures, but I don't have any I'm afraid!
Just had to walk away from a red 67 plate Suzuki Swift that I was supposed to be picking up today. When I first looked at it, there were some slightly rough patches in the paintwork and they agreed to machine polish the whole car before I picked it up. However, today when I looked again, every panel was covered in a fairly fine-grained cloudy/mottled pattern. It looked a bit like the start of the blistery fade you used to get on single-stage reds. The body repair guy in the garage compounded then panel-wiped the worst bit just to show me how it looked. It looked kinda OK, but I just wasn't happy because I suspect it's some sort of paint failure and will be a perpetual nightmare.
Anyone else seen anything odd with recent red Swifts, or clearcoat failures on other colours? Obviously I'm back on the hunt now and fairly committed to a Swift but wondering if I need to steer clear of the reds altogether. I thought fading reds were a thing of the past?

It's not the result of the bodyshop compounding the cr@p out of it (poorly)?, and what you are seeing is buffer trails and pad marring which will make red look cloudy and dull.
I did a red XKR recently which had had numerous repainted panels and the client thought it had faded - nope, just the appalling finish left by the bodyshop.

Hmm, it's a thought, but I've spent a lot of time this afternoon looking at images of typical defect types and it didn't really look like either of those. I couldn't really detect any linear, curved or circular patterns whatsoever. The closest images I've seen are mild/early examples of the clearcoat failure on MB Mars Red (eg. https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w204/611493-pai... which kind of vindicates my decision to walk away because that seems to end pretty horrifically.SW1FT said:
