Lets have a good news thread for a change. Be interesting to see what real world growth is like for phers business or the companies they work for.
We just had our 2019 figures (main dealer) with a 44% increase in retail sales over 2018, we also had our best December since opening which is usually a quiet month and warranty jobs are up too.
Start of 2020 has seen us attract 3 new contracts which is a mix of service/warranty and new vehicle sales too. 2020 is certainly starting off good for us. Talking to a few of our regular customers trade types/self employed etc they are all booked up till spring and are looking to expand themselves.

Hopefully 2020 will be equally as successful for everyone else as well.

Our businesses are in the construction equipment industry. There are plenty of jobs out there and even the pre-election Autumn budget added a significant increase in spending on roads and repairs, and we anticipate further 'Brexit sweeteners' from the government, so it looks good.

Just needs to stop raining! The ground is so wet a lot of jobs are on hold, but that's the way it is sometimes.

Unless, per Digga, the sector in question is explained its impossible to contextualise these statements.

Our American CEO got a massive payout this year (double digit millions). We all got 2%.
So i guess it is doing well, just waiting for that trickle down.

As the owner of an indoor play area I could not agree less.

no comment on the games workshop but I would be surprised to see Boohoo do even half that growth this year, possibly even shrink. Basis of comment? Sentiment expressed by ladies spoken to over Christmas who had bought a lot on Boohoo but were now moving away from it for many reasons, including the age old "is a size 10 a size 10 or a size 8 or a size 12?"

In building here on the south(west) coast mainly doing upgrades and a few small new builds and extensions. In 25 years I have never known it to be so busy. Part of it is a basic shortage of skilled people but since the election it has been off the scale. I do not know a single tradesman who is not booked up for months. Everyone who was waiting to see is now going for it.
I am booked until the other side of Easter despite upping my rate again and not liking to book myself too far ahead as I usually hoover up all the work nobody else can do at a premium. Some others in my trade (tiling) are booked up to close to the end of the year already. I am turning work away at least once a week. God knows how it will be if the post leaving bounce actually happens.

2018 total disaster basically break even. Weather too hot plus political instability.
2019, slightly better but any chance of a recovery suffocated by PM resigning and delays in Brexit.
2020, who knows.

We have basically lost 2 years trading. Things had been going well too, we had finally recovered from the mess that was 2009-2011 and 2016 was a good year and 2017 was very good. Things were looking up so shows how quickly things can change.

My taxi business is doing very well for January. Usually it goes quiet after Christmas and New Year, but it's holding up well. Ok, weekend work is down, but we are picking up a lot of new contracts which is good solid work.

Quietly confident for 2020.

Exactly, it’s pointless to not explain what area your work is in and then say “weather too hot” or “AI is taking over. Do you hand knit wooly jumpers, or sell chocolate fireplaces?

Unless people are just wanting someone to ask them “Oh what is it you do?”.

Construction here also.
Apart from the fking endless rain, things are looking up. Plenty of new enquiries & having to turn down some smaller projects. We can basically pick & choose depending on the attitude of clients & nature of project. It seems the city types have an awful lot of cash swilling around & are only too keen to spend it on high end work. Brexit appears to be releasing a lot of pent-up demand, so 2020 so far looking good....

Who knew selling miniature figures was so profitable?

made a pre-tax profit for the six months to December 1 of £58.6m, up from £40.8m the year before.

Revenue rose to £148.4m, from £125.2m, with increases across all its segments.
Tidy profit margin.
I wonder whether those closures you saw were down to getting rid of crap rental agreements.

I think the point is just to note there is good news out there...a foil to the all the bad news bear stuff posted on here over the last few years. Some of it contextualised. Some of it not. Some of it correctly attributed, much of it not.

If businesses here are doing well, is that not something to be celebrated?
