I have recently bought a 2010 E90 320d. Now, I'm not a fan of stop start by any means and this isn't a big deal, but it only cuts out the engine for a second, then starts itself again.

Anybody know why this is? It seems to work fine it just seems to cut back in really quickly regardless of whether you touch the clutch or not...

Thoughts appreciated.

Just turn it off mate, it’s annoying and pointless, I’ve also heard it’s not great for your engine

I presume it’s got a battery monitoring module. In which case, you’re either drawing a load of current somewhere, which the vehicle doesn’t like.

Or more likely ... the battery’s getting tired.

Turn it off at every opportunity!

I had a 123d with stop/start from 2008 to 2014. The AGM battery that had to be coded to the car died in less than 5 years (£300+ fitted) then the starter motor died in less than 7 years (£600+).

Replaced it with an E86 with no stop/start nonsense and the OE battery lasted 10 years and only cost about £118 to replace - progress my a*se. laugh

Just turn it off, there’s a button, left hand side next to the heated seats one. Really pointless thing in my opinion

I must say as an engineer I was eager to see what I thought about this feature (new to me) in my 118d 2010.
However it has only come on maybe 4 times in this first year of ownership. Battery new.
Anybody know why this is?

Battery state of charge. Climate control setting v ambient temperature. Not having your seatbelt on, etc....

Multiple reasons smile
