Hi looking to get a new bike for my daily commute, to replace my trusty Gpz500 ( dont laugh) but fancy a bit of an all rounder apart from the two bikes above what else should I consider?

I like the comfort of my Gpz , (I had an SV650s Before and found the handle bars too low) so dont want anything too sporty but I do like bikes with full fairing.
Awkward I know

Also what sort of tank range could I expect from a Cbr600f of a thundercat, I get about 200 out of the GPZ!

thanks.

I had a thundercat for a while and it's very comfy and not as soft as mags would have you believe. It's got a very good turn of speed too. Haven't ridden a cbr600 but I suggest you have a ride of both it you can, the cbr is bound to be more sporty.

You can get up to 160miles (if your good) out of a CBR600FX, norm is around 130-140miles.

I had a Thundercat for 7 years - went well and I never had any problems with it whatsoever. I used to get about 160-180 miles out of a tank.

The only reason I got rid off it was because I just fancied something new.

Thanks Scott I think the thundercat will be more suited to what I need, I know what you mean about changing just because you want something new , but sometimes that something new is not as good as what you got rid of!

Same here and I bought a zx6r... it was not a step up as a road bike imo.

Definitely better than the both of them and large enough to fit most people in some comfort.

Did a few miles on a 2001 model - went to Le Mans in 2003 on it. Fantastic bike for the money.

If money is a consideration (when isn't it!!) then Thundercats have worse depreciation than the Hondas and are at least the equal.

As the previous poster pointed out, the Thundercat is not a soft option. It was released as an out and out sportsbike - its just that the Ninja and CBR were sharper at the time. It then got relegated to sports-tourer when the R6 was released.

The zx6r that I had (a J1) was a shocking bike. It lunched its gearbox and its cam-chain tensioner in the first year I had it from new, it handled appallingly (the front end felt incredibly vague) and they appeared to have sacrificed all bottom end to gain a couple of bhp to impress the mags (*)... steer clear is my advice.

I swapped it for a blade which despite being a bigger big handled a hell of a lot better and was, obviously, more powerful and a lot more tractable. Based on my experiences the cat was a better day to day bike than the 6r. If you don't have to rely on it it and you track it a lot and you can sort the front end the 6r may be better. The later bikes may be much better but I've heard many more takes of woe on the reliability of kwaks than any other make... shame really, something about kwaks really attracts me.

Each to their own though.

(* I know bike are supposed to be like that but the thundercat just pulled and pulled whereas the 6r needed to be rev'd to 10k to get the b&gger to do anything and then it hit the limiter).

Lol, you don't say. I don't think their quality control is up to much, it's like buying a french car... you might get a good one but you might not.

I'm sticking with Honda for a while and when I get bored of the blade I'm going to give either Suzuki a go (never had one) or maybe a Yam.

Regards,

Mark

mine had valve seals replaced @15k but then went on to 27k in my hands and is still going well with the new owner . loved the bike and still occasionally wish i still had it . but then when you want to play with sunday bikers there is something about a 1000cc bike you can light the tyre on and somehow feel in control ZX12R next.......
