strange white deposit

Ive not had this before but on my 640 there's a dried out white deposit on both the boot lid rubber and the part of the body that it touches when it's closed. I've cleaned both thoroughly but it's come back for a third time. I wash the car myself and rinse with the power hose so it's not chemical from a "hand wash" place. Any suggestions?

Sounds like sulphur bloom or something from the vulcanising agents used in the rubber. Fairly common thing in many rubber products. Nothing to be done but wipe it off regularly.
