Mileage v Age

I am looking to get a used Hyundai Sante Fe and pondering two examples, both are the same model, same engine size, same specification etc with one difference one has a tow bar which I will need. The differences between them are age, mileage and price

so options are:-

66 plate 48,000 miles tow bar £17,495

16 plate 30,000 miles no tow bar £17,250

I estimate I will be doing 20,000 miles and keeping the care for 5 years. So which one would you go for?

I bought a car once 60k miles with a toe hitch, I never used it for that purpose but changed the rear shocks as they were clearly worn.

Go for the one that feels right.

You can always add a tow bar if it doesn't have it.

You can't change the suspension, steering and engine on the one that feels wrong.

The one with the lower mileage the newer one has nearly a year of your annual mileage for the sake of having a tow bar fitted in this case the older/lower mileage would win it for me.

I'd definitely go for the lower mileage one with no tow bar as it's potentially had an easier life.

And it's less than a year older anyway - could be as little as a few weeks!

How long will you keep the car? If in both situations it would remain within OEM warranty then frankly it doesn’t matter.

I'd be inclined to go for the one with no tow bar, just because it won't have been used for towing and there's less likely to be stress on clutches and rear suspension components. Have you checked the actual registration dates? These could be registered a number of weeks apart rather than months as the reg suggests.

Some people use a towbar to connect a cycle carrier too, which is the case in this instance apparently.
