MKV to play on Windows Media Player
Discussion
Not sure why you'd want to, just download a comprehensive codec pack quite a few of which come with MPC-HC player (MKV is a container and may contain different video formats)/use VLC player. I've always used the K-Lite codec pack and MPC but my library is in Plex anyway so I just play it in the browser if I'm using this PC to watch.
If you mean videos encoded with HEVC, then in W10 you can bypass the £0.79 payment option for the plugin by downloading the 'device manufacturer' version for £0.00.
I find H265 playback in VLC misses/delays frames (on an i9, Vega 48 GPU, SSD, 48gb RAM) - so have recently started using Movies & TV player.
