Uber has found its way to our area. biggrin Proper 21st C kids.

So wadda do?

I assume smart phone, uber account with cc details, then charged after the journey.

I suppose cash is a no no. Do you tip? Guessing cash is OK for this?

Looks to be about 70% of normal mini cab fares.

Correct.

Option to add a tip when you rate your journey on the app.

No need to part with cash, just order a car, jump in and then get out on arrival. You can tip if you really feel it's deserved through the app.

I have my uber linked to paypal and it comes off of that.

Sign up on a referral link to get £3 off your first trip, for example mine wink

https://www.uber.com/invite/oqtf9

Setup a payment method in the app and you can select to tip afterwards if you want as well as rate the driver.

I got a free trip in Warsaw recently just for talking to my Tunisian driver, he refunded the trip because I wasn't one of the racist bellends he was usually subjected to.

I've only been using it since October, (needed a cab in Portugal and our nephew ordered us up a cab pretty pronto) and have to say it's been pretty impressive so far. No need to flap around finding a cashpoint for cash and always very quick to arrive (in London).

Walk, hitch hike, catch the bus, crawl on all fours?
Basically, anything that avoids getting in a car captained by an Uber fuxkwit.
Incompetent, ignorant, arrogant and generally st at driving.

Used Uber a bit, less fuss, can see where your car is arriving from the app, also see where it is when the son is in one, so know when its arrived where he's going, no cash to change hands, and prices, including Christmas day are very reasonable.
Also used Uber eats to get food delivered and that works well too.

I travel a lot with work in Euro main cities

I seem to get a lot lower bills now as they can’t really deviate from the route and take me round the houses

I feel sorry for the old style cab guys, but then again a lot of them didn’t feel sorry for me when adding a tourist tax on

It’s Mr Yellow Ambulance to you.
I always thought us, Plod, Trumpton and a select few others were given something of a priority on the roads. Seems we’re all second on the list now.

Speaking as a person who rarely gets a taxi, but drives around town a fair bit, this chap is completely right.

Uber drivers, and Ola drivers and any other driver who elected to have a mobile phone as their boss, seem to forget how to drive. Or ignore everyone else other than the punter. They'll stop to a dead halt on the road waiting, only after beeping at them do they put their indicators on. Stopping at the exit of the drop off area at Birmingham New Street to let their fare get out, to hell with the rest of us trying to get to work?

Or my personal favourite this morning. An Uber crawling on to a roundabout, (I'm coming from his right) looking at me, then beeping at me for not stopping. It's as if I didn't have his mobile phone gaffer telling me the rules of the road, which are different to the ones I passed my test with.

Saying that, all private hire taxis are scum in Birmingham. It's just Uber are particularly bad because of their own life choices.

In London they aren’t given entry to the black cab rank at Paddington Station (which is enforced by ANPR).
No matter. Just stop in the middle of the road (as per standing rules for Uber) outside the main pedestrianised entrance and pretend not to know that said road is also the access route to St Mary’s Hospital, one of London’s Major Trauma Centres.
What’s that? An ambulance with all its whizzy lights and sirens on?
Just crack the driver’s window and waggle a mobile phone out of the window. They’ll understand.
I’ve taken to using the blues by default just to snow plough the cretins out of the way.

Really? I was dropped off there by Uber just last week, and have been picked up multiple times last year.

Yes, and Streetview shows no limitations (2018 image)
