Looking for a fairly standard 520d Touring approx 1 year old. Seems every car for sale is Y registered (BMW UK car) but all are pretty much exactly 12000 miles give or take a couple of hundred. Any car with the M Sport plus pack is much lower miles.

How is this possible, surely mileage will vary quite a bit depending on usage, especially if they are employee cars. All cars are pretty much the same age.

I saw a couple in dealerships which looked immaculate and tyres barely worn. Surely they can’t be clocking them forward to achieve a price point?

Anyone with any insight, more out of curiosity than anything.

Maybe they have a set mileage limit before selling them?

I’m assuming so, but strange they have all accumulated mileage at pretty much exactly the same rate.

They are often ex BMW HQ staff cars (I know at VW it’s a new car every 6 months/8k whichever comes first I think) or ex rentals, which will have a strict mileage limit on the lease deal offered to the likes of enterprise etc.

A manufacturers management car scheme is basically pool cars run to a targeted mileage,so if Bill is doing more miles than Ben they swoop over etc etc and so on with different staff... also don't forget they could be
National group Ex Hire cars all pulled at a set mileage...

Bear in mind that dealer prep on a <1 year old car will make it look new, unless it’s been hammered

The tyres are also seriously hard wearing so will look new. My 520d is still on its original rears at 30k miles......

I think Sixt rentals have loads of 5 series probably some of those after they have been put back on the block after 12 months and 12k.
