Wanted Dead or Alive

Most of us have the same opinion in principal the corvette was not really designed to have a front number plate it is such a shame to spoil the look of the car, and it very rare for anyone to see anything other than the back of my car anyway.

Apparently the boys in blue condemn this and have a different opinion. I was followed from Sandown Park (notorious trap for road tax at certain times of the month) up to Hinchley Wood, where I turned off and into the petrol station and was confronted on the private property of the petrol station. I pulled into the Petrol Station and right forward into the corner obscuring the front of the car, (this didn’t work) anyway, cut a long story after half an hour of bla bla, £30.00 fine.

Being the forgetful chap that I am I filed this important document in a safe place, to be addressed at some later point in time. Well if you don’t pay that fine it goes up to the staggering sum of £45.00. and the letter that comes looks really official so I put it to one side so I wouldn’t forget to deal with it. With all the excitement of LeMan and my brain being clouded over the choice of runflats, I am still trying to find the time to get around to looking for where I left that bit of paper.

Apparently now a warrant is out for my arrest for bail and failing to pay un paid fines of £45.00.
so seeing as I am officially on the run can I now legitimately describe my self as the

Interesting topic...
Motorbikes dont need a front plate but cars do. Surely any transport should follow the same rules. Its even more bizarre in the US as some states want a front plate and some don't. But you wont get persecuted if you are from a state without a front plate and are in one that needs a front plate.

I think they blatently want a front plate so the Truvelo forward facing speed cameras can catch you!

Even those US states that require a front number plate will often be lenient if you're driving a vette, viper etc. They're care a bit more about the car heritage than the letter of the law. Of course you'll always get the occasional cop with nothing better to do :-)

we drove around (technically illegally) for 18 months and were never pulled over for the front plate not being there.

I Bought my car March 03 so not bad value for money, if I have missed out on the occasional speeding ticket,

Let's face it, it's hardly the end of the world, and I suppose non-endorseable anyway... I did not tell you guys that I'm also on a year's warning for "driving which may cause distress to other motorists" - i.e. not dangerous, nor speeding... Basically I distressed old Mr Plod in his T5 by accelerating too quickly and then turning off [the A1] soon after... he accused of my "weaving in and out" ... ha ha...

I do not think the police "get it" any more: when they're let off for speeding at 159mph!! - oh and a whole load of other members of the same force let off too; when they worry about minutae like missing front number plates; when they stop you for speeding (as they did me) at 94mph on completely empty motorway and had the gall to say "well it was a bit unfair stopping you"... well, they lose respect. Sorry, but that's the way it's gone.

So!! Pay the fine (so they can't arrest you!), but keep that front number plate off ... worht £30 every 2 years I'd say !

I have had a visit from a warrant officer at 7am on Monday but I wasn’t at home some one called me as they though he was from the council, (complaining about running a Limo business from home) so now they have sent out bounty hunters I am currently hiding in a safe house in Surrey

Fixed penalty of £30 increases to £45 for non-payment than ordinarily, you should challenge it and a summons should be issued. The difficulty comes when the bailiffs come in to remove your property.

Simple, just tell them that you're out
I wonder when the Police will start using Indian call centres to chase up the thieving, anti-social, reactionary, militant & dishonest members of society who refuse to pay a fine rightly imposed on them for their outrageous behaviour. How can people sleep safely in their own homes at night while the likes of you are out terrorising innocent people who are just going about their daily business trying to earn a decent crust? It's disgusting, I hope that the full weight of the law is brought to bear. Bring back Capital punishment I say. Flogging's too good for you. I'm going to write to my MP about this, I want questions raised in the House (one being "Just what wall, exactly, are you pissing my taxes up?" ).

£30? Count yourself lucky. I was once "pulled" on a C50 (OK, don't laugh) because I had a pillion passenger. Fair pull I thought, as what fool would carry a pillion on one of those? After seeing my (clean) full driving licence, insurance that covered me on any m/cycle, the MOT, & having checked the brakes, lights, horn, my inside leg, whether my eyebrows met in the middle & anything else that he could think of (while all the time my passenger & myself remained civil & courteous - though it was difficult), he eventually resorted to measuring the number plate with a tape measure. Ever get the feeling that somebody is out to get you? The bottom of the metal had been jagged & split & I had filed it straight after cutting my hand open on it once too often. It was about 5mm undersize. It was the original plate, correct font style, size and spacing, etc, etc, but because I'd shaved some metal off of the bottom, it cost me a £10 fine. Not a lot these days, but in 1980, after rent & loan payments, I had £7 a week to live on, which included food, beer, fags, bills, petrol, insurance, tax, beer, & everything else that cropped up. And beer (one pint of Newkie Brown on a Saturday night if nothing unexpected had cropped up during the week - like jobsworth young coppers needing to show their lack of lawfully wed parentage). To put it into perspective, while I was wasting most of the day in the Magistrates Court (a complete waste of a days annual leave) I saw one of the thugs from the year above me when I was at school. He was charged with various offences culminating from an evening going out & beating up some nightclub bouncers for fun, throwing one through a shop window (his defence was great, the lawyer started off with "Mr ***** had gone out for a quiet drink & had had 16 pints of lager before going to xxxx nightclub to ask the doorman why he'd been refused entry the previous week.....". The guy himself, when asked his name by the beaks replied "Peter Sutcliffe" (this was just after Sutcliffe had been caught). He earned well over £100per week as a builder & his fine was £30. I reckon, judging by my fine, that I was considered a real danger to society. So don't mess with me. Anybody gets lippy & I'll file yer numberplates, d'ya hear? You guys without any plates at all must be some real hard cases.
Start practicing now "You'll never take me alive, copper", "Get orf my manor", "It was 'im wot dun it, yer got the wrong geezer, Rozzer", "Splitters!".
The copper that did me would have had a far more rewarding career in banking....
I'll now get back to reading The Daily Mail....

Interesting how they seem to be getting hotter on this no front number plate business. Never would have really bothered until they started getting a cut of the scamera money...

Sam - You are a very naughty boy - you don't deserve such a nice car and frankly, if you cannot abide by the laws of the land then you deserve everything you get!

On the other hand F**K 'em... Why should you have to spoil the looks of the car when, as others say, there is no need on a bike etc.

Only if they are driving a yellow ZO6! He gets pulled nearly everytime - can't imagine why such an understated car should get so much attention!
