718 extended warranty
Discussion
My 718 Cayman coming up to 3yrs with 5.5k on the clock, only take it out in good weather or above 8 degrees (summer tyres).
Have been quoted £216 for 111 point check, with £1190 for 2 year warranty extension.. assume no brainer to take out due to anything that may go wrong then in a Porsche dealership cost probably over 1k.
Also been quoted £216 for 2yr extension for Porsche Breakdown/recovery, again worth it, as if get a puncture then car is recovered incl. replacement vehicle whilst car is repaired.
Thoughts?

It depends on whether the car is non-standard in any way. your attitude to risk, how long plan on keeping the car and whether you already have breakdown cover elsewhere e.g. via your insurance. Everyone's circumstances are different so there's no obvious right or wrong answer.
My views too. It's a gamble and will ultimately depend on your own choice. In my view it IS NOT a no brainer.
If, like me, you're considered a good customer by your OPC they may waive the 111 point check fee (as mine did) even if it doesn't coincide with a service (mine didn't need one at the same time, just an MOT).
I chose 2 years in 2017 and then one year in 2019 so as to coincide with 2 year service intervals if a future DP wasn't so accomodating. Ultimately they refused the 1yr warranty extension due to Zunsport grilles being fitted - as detailed in a previous thread.
I saved £600, got back £1100 for the invalid 2017 warranty, visited RPM for a health check and chat, and now prefer to build a contingency fund (self insure) and entrust my car to RPM who seem to care more about what they do.
Your future intentions are relevant - will you keep the car? Will it sell for more with an extended warranty? Yes to the latter.
Porsche owners always seem to worry about their engines blowing up, bore scoring, and bearings. In reality the 718 is probably OK so long as treated right. My 981 hasn't used a drop of oil in 52k miles which I regard as a good measure of what's going on inside, but you never know...

Definitely not a no-brainer for me...
You are only doing around 1800 miles a year, if you do the same annual mileage in the next two years you are spending around 32p per mile jus for warranty.... The car is nearly new and barely broken in, the chances of a significant fault developing with these mileages are tiny.
I'd save my money and put it towards the service costs.

My view? You need to drive it more!
I do more than your annual mileage in a two week tour of europe in our 981CS. I'll be renewing for another 2 years in Mar, mainly to cover any pdk box issues (as it's a replace rather than repair job).
I recall the PDK's life is the lifetime of the car. Read about maybe one issue here. What concerns you? By the way, I have absolutely no idea what's going on inside the 'box. I mean, how can you have wet clutches? I do more than your annual mileage in a two week tour of europe in our 981CS. Thanks for all the comments, I intend to take the car abroad in the summer, so should add some miles, therefore recovery for me is no brainer.
I went back to the OPC & stated as car is having MOT & 111 point check, must be some duplication of labour. They came back with, we are only charging £216, our hourly rate is £198 & take into account duplication of some checks.

A wet clutch is one that operates in oil. They generally operate more smoothly than dry ones and are less likely to overheat. Motorbikes have, with only odd exceptions , have almost invariably used them for donkeys years. Dual clutch boxes can either use wet or dry clutches - but wet is preferred. Wet clutches normally have multiple plates, dry ones a single plate - but that isn't invariably the case.I have been driving Porsches for over thirty years and am now on my twelfth - some bought new some bought used. I do about 4000 miles a year and have never taken out an extended warranty or had to make a claim under the new car warranty. The only problems I had were on a 996 Turbo which had an unhealthy appetite for radiators and some brake issues which would not have been covered by warranty anyway. My view is extended warranties are a waste of money on cars which cover such low mileage as yours and mine.
