Not starting - help!

I about to search the archives but in case I can't find an answer: car turns over but does not fire up. I can't hear the fuel pump which makes me think it isn't getting any power from the battery. Key fob works OK and as it turns over I don't think it's anything to do with the immobiliser. I'm hoping there is a quick fix...

Electricity is a wierd thing.
I employed the knowledge gained from my MGB days and after taking a rear wheel off and ignition on, hit various things that might have been a fuel pump with a steel bar, gave up and put the wheel back on. Just as I was tightening up the wheel nuts, the fuel pump springs to life! So add that to the list of fixes - if fuel pump not working, undo wheel nuts and tighten again - problem solved.
Great - was just about to spend a day driving a Zafira
now I'm back in my baby!

now I'm back in my baby! There's a couple of relays in the wiring loom to the ECU. One of these is for the fuel pump, and the other is the main relay for the ECU.
They're Lucas or Bosch parts, and should be replaced with exactly the same thing (not the nearest guess part!!) as there are diodes and in them for protecting the electronics.
Fortunately they're not expensive - only a couple of £ each.
Mine started to play up in a similar way - if you left it to "consider it's position" for half an hour, everything was fine for a good while, then it would play up again...

Due to the location of the fuel pump its vunerable to electrogremlins.
They sit on the lower wishbone until it rains and then they jump onto the fuel pump and get between the connectors.
A good deterent is coppergrease, the little b**tards hate it.
Seriously,first job has to be checking the feed to the pump.
Its next to the nearside lower chassis rail under the rear arch.
The pump has two connections and you should get power to one of them. If not then look further up the circuit to the relay.
