Geldof loses plot on Live 8

If already discussed apologies, searched on Geldof and nothing found re this.
Asking for a flotilla of small boats to sail across the channel and pick up anyone who wants to travel to Live 8. Intended route Portsmouth-Cherbourg which is not exactly a hour and half jaunt in whatever vessel you have.

WTF! The man has lost it. Disaster waiting to happen. Across one of the busiest shipping areas, skippers who are light on crew to maximise passengers having to deal with difficult and compromise decisions caused by seasick people unused to travelling in small craft
Easier to organise concerts on mainland Europe and maybe live links to/from elsewhere.

The Sail 8 rubbish is a form of protest, something that should be protected at all cost. If the form of protest involves taking to boats and sailing across the channel, the job of the authorities is not to decry it as dangerous or try and stop it happening.
The job of the various authorities and govts is to ensure that this protest can happen safely.
Its worth remembering - the authorities work for us - NOT the other way around. We pay their wages, and if its "inconvieniant" to them - tough.
If we want hundreds of froggies drowning themselves, its their right as human beings to do so. And I will stand on Dover and cheer them on.
(Only joking about drowning froggies of course. We have alot to learn from them like how to be selfish and put your own country first)

I'm not sure that this is such a brilliant idea.
There would probably be several craft going accross who do not have the necessary safety equipment or knowledge and subsequently get into trouble.
This does happen anyway of course, but to have several incidents simultaneously could end up with rescue services stretched.
Although crossing the channel is not that far, if the weather turns bad it can be very nasty. The sea doesn't tend to forgive screw ups!
Dunkerque was born of necessity, as peoples lives were on the line. This seems to be a poorly thought out way to make a point.
That said, it would be cool to see a huge fleet of sailing boats sailing together.
