I need a sports car for a about 9 months to a year. What's going to hold value better BoxsterS (986 or 987) or 911 (996 or 997)?

Your wisdom greatly appreciated!

You don't say how much you are going to spend?

Conventional logic would say that the older/cheaper the car then the less depreciation it would have in it.

I have seen examples of 2000 Boxster S going in the early 20s - can't imagine they have much to fall. Similarly 1998 996s can be picked up for mid-20s, which surely can't go any lower.

A Mk1 GT3 might be a good bet - as long as you don't try to re-sell during the winter.

I wouldn't go to a newer 996/997 or Boxster as they will depreciate more.

I saw a Sunday Times article recently saying that, from new, the Boxster was the UKs least depreciating car and the 996 was second. Third place was way behind both of them.
