Insignia AFL Headlamp Nightmare!!!
Discussion
I have a 59 reg Insignia Elite with the Xenon AFL headlights.
I've had an intermittent fault that's become permeant more recently where I get a warning light on the dash and an error message stating "Service AFL Lamp" I've done some googling and it seems a few people have had this issue but the symptoms all vary. Mine are as follows:
Warning message upon starting the car
Turing lights both work
Side lights work
LED Daytime Running lights work
Dipped Beam works
However the main beam won't work.
I'm aware of numerous sensors around the car and a control module in the glovebox.
I spoke to a Vauxhall specialist today who had only encountered the problem once and it cost £1500
to fix as both headlights needed replacing. I'm hoping and praying mine won't cost that.
Can anyone shed any light on the issue?, if you'll pardon the pun

I had the same scary 'Service AFL Lamp' warning pop up on my Insignia. At first, it was intermittent, then it became constant. The main beam wouldn't work, and I thought I'd be paying a fortune to replace both headlights. After a bit of digging, I discovered that sometimes it's not the whole headlight that's faulty, it can be the LED module inside the headlight. This tiny component can trigger the warning even if all the other lights seem fine. I found a replacement that fits many Insignia models. Check compatibility with your car before ordering: https://xenons4u.co.uk/177310-34ab-led-module.html
Here's how I tackled it:
1) First, I scanned the car for error codes to be sure it wasn't the sensors or control module.
2) Then, I checked the wiring and connectors, sometimes a loose connection is the culprit.
3) I replaced the LED module in the affected headlight.
4) After reinstalling, I tested the lights, and the warning disappeared!
If this doesn't fix it, the next step is usually the AFL control module in the glovebox or the adaptive sensors but often, it s just the module. I was relieved I didn't have to spend over £1000 on full headlights. Sometimes, a small part makes all the difference!
