Missing service

Have found a 4 year old car I like apart from that it wasn’t serviced for the first time till it was 3 years old and 26k miles. It’s an A5 2.0 tdi. Hardly a rare car but it’s the colour and spec I like. It’s just been serviced again at Audi full works this time. How much would this put you off is the question.

That would insinuate it's been clocked to me, as very few people do not service a new car for three years.

I'd ring Audi with the Reg number and see if they have any service info on this, or go to a dealer for this.

There's no good reason to not service a car for at least the first few years given that presumably you'd want the warranty to remain intact.

Audi usually give 2 free services on non S or RS models, so something fishy here.

Diesel German saloon, +1 to likely having been clocked.
Although if it has done 100k it's likely to have been all motorway miles so might still be a good buy

I'd ask Audi if there is any warranty history in the system, as that will bring up the mileage to see if it's right or wrong.

If nothing, I'd walk away...

It's for sale at an Audi garage but it seems they do not have any criteria for their approved program other than give it a wash, they don't even dry them before photographing them
The second owner only had it for 4000 miles too according to the V5

Service records would be on-line so the garage with the car should know if it has been serviced

No record - look for another car.

Might be worth a punt if it looks/runs ok and was very cheap (half price type cheap). It's only really missed one oil change as far as miles are concerned. They are fairly common cars though, so probably less risk/hassle to find another one.

The service record is as follows:

1st registered Nov 2015
1st service 26,000 April 2019
2nd service 30,000 Nov 2019 (during prep)
The car is probably £500-£1000 cheaper than a comparable one at most

There's another at an non franchised garage with only 22,000 miles, mismatched tires, which is a pet hate of mine (3 dunlops and a Goodride whatever that is) and it has an in house 3 month warranty ... not that appealing either TBH

Perhaps you could get in touch with the previous owner just to clarify whether he/she got an independent to service it?

Even online records get lost. Dealership closes, software issue, info incorrectly entered etc etc

Just looking at another one at Audi, this one has done 34,000 miles & had its first recorded oil change at 34,000 miles

It wouldn't put me off, if Audi are happy to cover it as an approved used car that would be enough for me. Besides if only you knew how people treat cars a missed service is nothing.

When I worked in a big company with lots of 3yr lease company cars, hardly anyone got them serviced.

OTOH it could have been done, but not recorded in the digital service record.

I'm not sure they're that thorough, I think it's more about giving it a good clean and making a blury video of the car whilst it's still wet based on my experience so far today!

3 years without a service.

Will the warranty cover any engine issues then?

Would they try to wriggle because the history is incomplete?

These are the questions I'd be asking the sales people, and the service manager from a different Audi garage.
