Am I safe enough to fit it myself? Three nuts on the top of the suspension turret under the bonnet, undo, fit brace, do up?

Mazda MX5 MK3 if it makes a difference. Just checking there's not going to be a spring fuelled explosion of front suspension when I undo the nuts.

Just do it. If there is a disaster it will be a good story so you can't lose.

On most cars the spring is secured in place by the nut in the middle that holds the top mount to the shock, with the spring in the middle.
The bolts around the edge of the top mount then hold the hole assembly to the body of the car.

Taking the nuts off holding the top mount on will be fine - especially as the weight of the car will be holding everything in place anyway.

Yes you are fine to undo the bolts on the Turrets, just fit brace and tighten them back up.

Just be cautious if they look rusty, I broke 2 studs off the strut on one of the mk1s I had, hopefully yours being a newer car it should be OK.

Should be fine, as long as the car’s weight is on its own (front) wheels the strut top will be held in place. The nuts only really come into their own fully on rebound. Check there will be no alignment change.

Thanks, I'll give the nuts a dousing in WD40 tomorrow.
