Recommendations for new pans are a regular request here so this is the opposite.

Anyone got any old copper pans they use and are they worth using?

I'm fed up with knives and often lust after the big Mauviel pans at but at several hundreds a time I can't justify the expendiure.

However, I saw a variety of pans in mixed condition in an antique shop today some of which need complete refurb (which I can get done locally) and for the cost of a couple of new Mauviels I can get 8-9 restored antique ones.

If its worth it aside from looking pretty on the shelves.

I imagine the challenge is storing them for most kitchens as they tend to be long handled implements. Great idea though and got me wondering.

I've got copper pans, had them for 11 years now. Great to use, bh to keep looking nice! Worth the effort, nice if you get them cheap, clean up and take pride in them.

Copper pans are like a gravel driveway in front of your mock Georgian manner with the enticement of a Sony, LG or Samsung extra large TV in the lounge, a cockapoo curled up in front of it and a garden someone else mows looking over the South Kent/Sussex/Surrey/Durham downs.

Personally I prefer Bourgeat pans that are good enough for your wife to beat you over the head with and can be thrown out when they "go a bit funny" without getting that 2nd mortgage.

Pans and knives ... darn it, they are the devils things when you just want to cook!

With respect...

Understanding and respecting kitchen history is not something akin to a cockapoo...
