Best solution for IP camera system
Discussion
Hi, what would be my best bet for IP video camera (internal and external) for work - 8+ cameras?
I need to be able to get a live feed on multiple screens through the building (so a web interface?)
Should I get a NAS based system or a dedicated system?
I’ve looked on the web but am not really sure where to start
Thanks folks

I would be interested in the replies too.
Currently I have BlueIris on a dedicated PC but it is an old i7 (3rd gen I think) and it starts to struggle with a couple of 1080p cameras and a 4k.
Guessing a Linux solution would be better and possibly with a dedicated gpu for the video processing.
My only real recommendation is to make sure whatever you pick it uses cat5/6 cable with PoE and avoid wireless and coax cameras.

Have a look at Hikvision, or similar, there are a multitude of brands. Get an 8 or even 16 way DVR, stick in a big HDD for recording, lots of different cameras to choose from, 4 or 5MP IP cameras at a minimum. The DVR can be accessed over the local network or remotely, there is an App to allow remote access on a phone/iPad etc.
DVR also has HDMI or video out so you drive monitors directly.

We have a Hikvision system externally and an Arlo Ultra one internally. I fitted both (if you can call it fitting, in the case of the Arlo) and there are pros and cons to each.
In both cases the footage is available over the internet. The Hikvision stores locally and streams from the box directly, the Arlo records to cloud and streams from there.
The Hikvision (HV) is POE, meaning the cameras are powered over the ethernet cable with no additional power requirements - the older HV system it replaced was boggo ethernet and separate power. The POE system a huge amount easier to fit and cable up.
The Arlo cameras are almost too simple and work via my phone or desktop app. We have 3 bases across two properties and I've learned a lot (such as don't buy the base model unless you like buying batteries!). The better cameras can be hard wired or solar powered, and run the feeds over wireless, which is handy for PITA locations or indoors.
