Had some bad food poisoning on Weds night.

Working in UK from early til lunch, then Eurostar to Brussels.

I ate- no breakfast
early lunch at 11,15am, Supermarket Tuna sweetcorn sarnie. Tea at client made by me.
4pm, at St Pancras, fish and chips at the brasserie, with a G&T.
ON train, tin of coke and bulmers, about 7pm.
Arrived at Brussels, took train to hotel in s NL, arrived quite late on, did not eat anything, but around 11pm, had a nespresso pod coffee from machine in my room.
3am , awoke feeling a bit off. No stomach pain but wondered why i'd awoken! Went for a widdle, completed, went back to bed, before I had time to get in, started feeling VERY nauseous, ran back to loo and chucked up in it! Very dark liquid, (coffee presumably, but coke too?)
Then, every 1hr 15 regular as clockwork, was repeated, bed, awoke, chucked up, back to bed. At 8am, I threw up again, but 9.15 arrived, I felt awful but kept it all down, I ha only been sipping water all night, (less than a glass consumed). 10am came, I still felt horrific did not dare eat, got up, taxi, went to client. Was sweating away, felt real grim, but did not chuck up.
Sipped water, few bits of gum, 4pm, had a fresh squeezed juice. felt a bit better but still fragile and no other soilds til toast next am.

So what was the likely source? If it had been much earlier, I would have said the fish, or sarnie. But as it was 4 hours after I had only drunk coffee in the room, could it be that? It was black, espresso, no milk, it was a seemingly clean machine, I filled with fresh water (we know what people do in kettles!), and was in a decent chain hotel, like (but not) a Marriott.

I am convinced it was the coffee, but in my years travelling and using such things, I have never had any issue. Or could it have been the fish and chips, 10 hours after eating?

Just as I was posting this my daughter ran to the loo and chucked up!! Norovirus maybe? But can it clear so quickly, in my case, 12-15 hours?

Normally it’s 2 to 6 hours for the 'common' food poisoning, noro virus incubation period is taking up to 48 hours so anything you had within that timeframe is a suspect.
It could something as trivial as dirty coffee cup in the hotel or touching money, luggage etc after you washed your hands and then tacked in that sarnie. Hope you feel better soon, drink plenty of tea with honey or sugar to compensate for the lost water and to get your energy levels up.

30 hours later i was fine!

I am thinking the norovirus maybe, it was very odd, no headache, no sore guts or anything from "the other end!". Coffee idea worried as I use them machines all the time, I do 100 night a year in hotels and they always have them!

It could be anything up to 48.

Luke warm tuna, to the ice in your GnT or even your hotel coffee

could just be something you have touched then ingested. Do you wash your hands often and properly? If not maybe you should.

I had on arrival but 7 hours on three trains, I did not use loos, and only drank tinned drinks, no food. But yes, considered it may be from train and then stations etc.
The lack of headache, stomach upset etc made me think noro virus, but I did get clammy and hot and bothered during the several hours of chundering!!

yes it's pretty unpleasant but equally remarkable how quick one can recover too when they thought they were going to st/vom themselves to an early grave

I've had real food poisoning once--Campylobacter (confirmed through a stool sample). I was really ill for almost 2 weeks and lost well over a stone.

Sounds like you had a virus.

I'd still go with Tuna as the culprit. It only needs to have been stored badly.

Simple procedure these days and sometimes even this is not enough.
ALWAYS wash your hands at every opportunity.
Why?
'Cos fking millions today do not! Dirty bds! mad
So, everything your hands touch...

If, on the other 'hand' it's something you've eaten. Not much you can do about that.

Well, except hope a loo is near at 'hand'. wink

Work in the industry. Most food born illnesses have at least a 24 hour gestation period and gestation periods can be up to 7 days. This is why food poisoning ‘outbreaks’ are very difficult for authorities to pinpoint. It also means that anything eaten less than 24hrs before first onset can be pretty much ruled out and anything eaten within last 7 days could be the culprit (there are food born illnesses that act within 24hrs but they are very very rare and very bad ass - literally). Also very unlikely to be the Tuna as it’s usually a Mayo mix and the (acidic) vinegar in mayo actually acts as preservative. Most food born illness originate from the ‘home’ handling of uncooked meats (esp chicken - consider what happens to your J cloth after preparing raw chicken folks). Commercial incidents tend to affect many not just one person and are thankfully rare but newsworthy when they happen.
However most likely not to be food related at all but to be Norovirus (or potentially an intolerance or an allergic reaction).
