Parking Ticket Payment - who should I pay?

Received a parking ticket back in September 2018 from Horizon Parking.

Through a mixture of the vehicle being delayed, moving house and thinking nothing would come of it, the fine escalated from Horizon to Gladstone Solicitors.

I have now received a letter from the County Court Business Centre and the costs have significantly raised. I now wish to pay this fine.

I have logged back on to the Horizons site and entered may details and it is asking for £95 payment.

If I pay Horizons, is my case likely to be closed, or will Gladstone Solicitors want payment (risen to £244!) as well?

Long story short, can I pay the originator of the parking fine, even if debt collectors have been instructed?

It's only a parking fine if it is from the council. Anything else is an invoice and can be ignored.

Post scans/photos of all letters/tickets/documentation you have (blacken out any identifying info) to Pepipoo asap for advice.

I want to pay it and be done with it.

My question is can I pay the original claimant (which I can still do only for £85) or do I need to pay the solicitor (claiming £244!)?

If I pay the £85 to the original claimant, will all the solicitors now longer be instructed to pursue me?

Pay the £85 & if you here from the solicitors again send them proof that you've paid horizons, they'll then contact them & you'll find that the fine gets dropped if you ring them however they'll make you pay the solicitors.

Does the “County Court Business Centre” have anything at all to do with the actual County Court??

If it does, and the letter is really from the County Court, then you already have a CCJ.

If it doesn’t (and AIUI Parking Firms rarely take people to Court) then you don’t need to panic

I am not sure if the two are related. The letter looks a bit amateurish, i.e. the logo is blurry and it doesn't specifically say County Court. It is always referred to as the County Court Business Centre.

I have 2 weeks to respond, which I have done stating that i have now paid the claimant in full.

I suspect you have been had. These companies are not beyond using dubious tactics like making letters look like there from official sources. Have you tried finding the number for the court independently. Give them a call and see if it’s real.

Is it in Northampton? If so it's likely to be genuine.

Yes, its Northampton so I suspect genuine. Doing some research online also suggests its genuine and should not be ignored.

Yes, the CCBC is where Money Claims Online get issued from.

If the claim has been issued, you DO NOT "already have a CCJ"!

You have 14 days to acknowledge the claim. This then gives you a further 14 days to file your defence. Then the claim progresses to a final hearing. Even if you lose the final hearing you don't get a CCJ. You have another 30 days to pay the judgment sum. If you don't pay the judgment sum, then AND ONLY THEN do you get a CCJ.

Also, if the parking firm have instructed solicitors, you contact the solicitors only and you pay the solicitors. That's the whole point of hiring solicitors to act for you.

If it's a genuine county court claim, and you do not wish to contest it, you need to pay the full amount claimed and not just the original transgression charge.
