I currently have a 2018 Golf GTD, and its quite a good car, pretty good at everything, but not really exciting and overpriced for what it is, as badges mean absolutely nothing to me. To be honest I'd rather it wasn't German, my last 2 cars have been and I've found them a bit of an anti-climax... Never had a BMW though.

The cars that I think I am interested in is the Hyundai I30 n performance and the 2019 Focus ST 2019 model. I'm tempted by the Hyundai as I've always had Jap cars and this, although it isn't is closer I guess. Also I'm not that young so it might look better etc... I've also never seen one at all in the town I live in or locally on the road. This is maybe because people think it's dull as a dishwasher? I haven't a clue and don't really care about that. The Focus is obviously a lot more common.

Does anybody have the Hyundai at all? I'm planning on test driving both. I'm not interested in French cars either, definitely not a quicker Golf either, just not for me. I've driven a 2018 GTI before.

I've also being toying with the idea of taking a car benefit and buying a used GT86. It's just the practicality of it, the speed of it doesn't bother me at all. I'm guessing it's more fun without it, and offers much better feel to it. Something that I think is missing from so many cars these days.

Thanks

I forgot to mention I think that the Civic Type R would be the best of everything. It's possibly too expensive and I just can't get away with what it looks like at all. So it's a non-starter.

I haven't driven the new ST yet but the i30n Performance is a cracking drive have you looked at the 308 GTI by Peugeot Sport?

The ST seems to be winning a fair few awards and comparison tests. It would probably be my choice. Seems to be a great all rounder.

Thanks I watched that video. The Hyundai is a better looking car than the Focus, from the front anyway, just in my very humble opinion.

Yes I've read about the Peugeot. I've never been into French cars. But it's a lease car so if it's unreliable it's not my problem. I'm going to test drive an I30n Performance on Friday. It's what I've kind of got my heart set on. Just hope it's got not a bad stereo as they were always crap in jap cars I had. I know this is Korean, I'm just not sure they put as much emphasis on it as other brands.

I just like the idea of something different to the norm. I've never, ever seen an I30n on the road around here. If I don't like the car I'll check out the Ford and possibly the Peugeot.

I just hope it gives a bit more driver involvement than the Golf I have. It handles pretty well, but it's suspension is too soft and there's hardly any feedback about what the front wheels are actually doing. A good all round car, just not exciting enough. Puts me off trying other similar VAG offerings. But it's always a possibility.

Thanks again.

I think I'd take the i30N over the Focus ST. There's not a whole lot in it tbh, but i do like how the Hyundai is fully specced up and the only option is what colour paint to go for.

I'd personally go for a Megane 280 over both of them though.
