I have a small project on the go to create a bedside lamp...

I've bought a small wifi LED smart controller, have a small bit of RGB strip to play with from an earlier project and bought a battery holder for 8x AA batteries to test playing with it all.

The idea is to put this gubbins inside the shade and then control the light (on/off/dim/colour) via the Smart Life app.

However, the initial connect up gave nothing.

I'm suspecting the 8x AA batteries don't have enough poke to power the set up....though it could just as easily be cheapo components not working. I have a plan with my multimeter to see if I can see where the issue is, but does anyone have any experience of this sort of set up to give pointers?

Also, in the final incarnation of this I'm going to need bigger batteries. Nothing mental, but a rechargeable LiOn or similar that could give at least 10hrs between recharges would be preferred...I have a bit of space to store it so compactness isn't a big issue. Nor is weight really (within reason). Any recommendations?

If you have a cordless drill with a spare battery you can get an adaptor to fit it that has USB outlets.

I have this one...............

That looks interesting...though only need 12V.

Will add to the list of possibilities smile
