Walking Apps

Can anyone point me in the direction of the best walking apps. Something that could pin point our location and advise on the best walks nearby.
We tend to keep below 10k and North of England if that's of any relevance....cheers.

Google Maps to a walks plugin thing. This might work?!

I use an app called AllTrails for this - It will find walks in your local area or allow you to search further afield too. It will show the distance of each walk and how difficult it is so it is pretty useful.

You will also have the ability to download the information to allow for loss of signal or whatever.

Have you checked out Komoot? I know it's used for bikes and it has a walking option

Really well detailed walks with photos of waypoints, OS mapping, good descriptions and kept up to date by the community.

It's been a while since I did subscribe (kids arrived in my life) but I see it says they now have an app too.

For walking and outdoorsy type stuff generally I use AlpineQuest as it will load the old Memory Map .qct format maps of which I had a full set of OS ones. They're a bit dated but footpaths rarely ever move.

I use Komoot.

Plan & Track routes through it, I find it useful.

The OS app is great for this - both user and original walks suggested, offline downloadable maps etc. Does cost though - I think it's £24/year or £2.99/month from memory.

Map My Run

You can search Routes other have done nearby and also filter based on distance.
You can create your own Rotes on a PC/Laptop and send it to your Phone to do at a later date.

Pretty much does exactly what you want and it's free.

If you buy hard copies, there's a code inside the back cover which gives you lifetime access to it within the app.

Maps are available on eBay for about £7.

I use a mixture of OS maps, alltrails and maps.me depending on 8f I know the route etc.
