Green Gantry Cameras on M56

Just been into Manchester today, and saw lots of green (Lancia Stratos sort of green) cameras on the gantries and road bridges over the M56.

Any idea what they are?

Green cameras
The Highways Agency are now installing cameras on many trunk roads and motorways that are similar to the Trafficmaster cameras, but are coloured dark green. These are said to be for 'traffic monitoring purposes', and we believe they are connected to the National Traffic Control Centre.

Cheers, they do seem to be very similar in shape/size to the dark blue Trafficmaster cameras.

Come to think of it there were more at junctions than on bridges on plain stretches of motorway.

Probably ANPR, Automatic Number Plate Recognition. At the moment used for statistical purposes to monitor traffic flow. But could in theory work out average speeds of vehicles.
