Dash coolant temp' sensor
Discussion
Just a bit of a heads up.
Last September on my way down to Clermont-Ferrand, I lost the coolant temp' indication on the dash readout.
Wasn't too concerned as I still had the oil temperature indication - and it was mainly N-roads or Autoroutes that we were using and I could hear when radiator fans were coming in if in slow traffic. On my return to UK, I bought a new sensor from TVR Parts. Fitted this about a week later and rather than get CODE A error message, the dash reading went to 199 degC???!!
I phoned Str8Six and spoke to one of the tech's there - advice was get a new one sent, there had been a duff batch in circulation. A new sensor was sent and fitted. Meanwhile, I returned the first replacement to TVR Parts.
The second replacement worked - apparently OK, until I hit traffic, and the temp' climbed to ~ 92/94 degC….then it went to 199 degC!! I contacted Python who reckoned could be one of the chips in the dash pcb stack.
Well, getting a bit hacked off, I bought a third replacement - this time from Racetech. Fitted this early December....success!
Contacted TVR Parts who were very apologetic, firstly, about not acknowledging receipt of initial return, and secondly, that their follow-up supply of sensor also failed. They were very good and reimbursed the cost of both failed items and made an allowance for postage costs. They said just bin the second duff sensor.
Just a heads up for others!
