Evening all,

I've got an estimate for my watch that I'm happy with and I just need to send the business it via post so they can confirm the condition then send me the money. Does anyone know what the best way to send the watch so that it's insured during postage?

I presume royal mail would be the best way? I could drive to London to drop it off in person, however I prefer not to have to do the two hour trip each way.

What’s the value?

Royal Mail cover up to £2500 with special delivery.

Why not ask the business you are selling it to?

I posted a watch Royal Mail Special Delivery, but it was well within the £2500 limit

I’ve posted stuff that goes over the insurance limits before, with no issues, but £7k is (obviously) a different story.

Is it a business with a storefront? Could you drop it off by hand? Otherwise you’re looking at couriers, who can often insure well over that amount (ParcelHero is one, limit of £20k I think, but I don’t know the cost of that service)

Look at Securus for add-on insurance:

'Mail boxes etc' will do this for you but its around 2% so will be £150 give or take for UK postage. I used them for an £8k watch to the Netherlands recently.

Thanks for the feedback all. They recommended use DHL or Fedex. I'm just going to drive there for peace of mind. Fingers crossed there are no accidents on the way from Bristol..

Definately the right decision. I recently sold a watch to Watchfinder and drove up to Manchester from Cardiff for the same reaons.

I did the same with Watchfinder but Guildford to Maidstone, (actuallly not that far - 75 miles), but sending a £4000 watch in the post was well over £125 and I just felt it was not worth it.

I had the same issue when trying to find how I could send my watches (Rolex GMT2 & Omega Speedy) for a service to an independent. I had to use a AD in the end.
