Door knockers selling stuff
Discussion
What's the deal with door knockers then? i.e they come to your door, usually have a rucksack and give you some spiel about just coming out of prison, or being homeless or in the case of one just now...claims he's just come out of the forces and his homing charity will give him two nights accommodation if he manages to sell two items.
Genuine or dodgy?

Still, preferable to the people who rocked up last Sunday at 8:30am to encourage me to think about our creator.
I had a couple of ladies knock on my door last week for that - although at a more sensible time. One of them was very pretty - and after I said I wasn't interested, she said goodbye "and by the way, we love your car". Was sorely tempted to see if I could corrupt her......davek_964 said:

The threads always pop up and one of my claims to fame was doing it in the school holidays back in 1982 for the bloke who gets out of the van in the clip below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBi0OCWHmj4
The programme was the The Knockers' Tale and the bloke's name was Steve. He told us tales of the summer before when he took on a load of West Ham ICF lads from Canning Town as his 'knocking crew'
They'd fight everybody he said!
Made loads of money to buy records/clothes selling ironing board covers, dusters, pegs etc. all over London, wherever the Transit took us that day. Highbury was brilliant, a lovely August day making about £50 each and having an ice cream with my girlfriend at the time when we were both 15.
Eltham was awful what a load of tight b
ds lived there.
It was a right laugh.
This seemed to be before the ex-con thing, just rang a card in a newsagents' window and got selling door to door the next day.

Dodgy, lying extortionists.
We get them three or four times a year. When I refuse to purchase anything they often get verbally aggressive. One ended up walking down my drive cursing and kicking items on my property – which resulted in me chasing after him.
The police couldn’t care less.
When I’m out the Mrs locks the gates and will not answer the door bell.

If you say you don't want to be knocked up again you just get added to a list , no big deal .

This thread will see all the people who don't answer their door come out of the woodwork.
Ah yes good point, we have to realise there are people among us here on PH who don't answer their door, unless they specifically know who's calling and they pretty much have a prebooked appointment to ring the doorbell. This thread is a great read to identify such loons.

I think they're extortionate rather than dodgy.
They get cheap crap and sell it for money. I'm sure some of it is stolen but some are 'proper' schemes to try and get people to think like entrepreneurs - buy things and sell them on to make a profit, rather than just stealing and using the cash for drugs.
Difficult to tell who is which and most can't hold a normal conversation, walk about in dirty trackies, etc. Many have a sense of entitlement in that because they have made the effort to walk to your door, you should feel obliged to buy something.
If I see them walking about I won't bother answering the door. Better that than having someone getting funny because you've said no. Many of them are the type where they beat people up if they tell them no, so they can't deal with it well.

Do you have any evidence for that ? It seems unlikely that any "proper" scheme is going to be training disadvantaged people to go selling stuff door to door. I'd wager it's all dodgy.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
