The Shedaccord
Discussion
Following the fairly significant failure of the gearbox in my £1,000 XC70, I needed something to replace it/stand in for it fairly sharpish.
Having looked around ebay/auto trader/gumtree, I spotted this an Accord Tourer (2.2 cdti executive) that looked nice enough and was within an hours train journey.
I messaged the seller and got good vibes, he had owned it 4 years and worked at the local Honda dealership so had it serviced there, it also had more or less full Honda history from new.
Slight worry was the 193k on the clock, but managed to get the car for £500 in the end so was worth the gamble.
It has all the bells and whistles of an executive, the sat nav doesn't work, the electric tailgate does work and has a very rare rear roof mounted dvd player.
Some pictures from the ad and a picture from collecting last night. Unfortunately I contracted some sort of virus over the course of yesterday so havent been out to properly survey my purchase yet, but it did the 60 ish miles home brilliantly with no dramas whatsoever. Looking at the interior you would never know its done its 190k.
I shall keep updated with any issues etc that arise, but for now a couple of pictures:

A friend has one of these...drove it a couple of times and it was very well equipped for 2005.
I convinced him that it would benefit from a remap (!) as I thought it was a bit sluggish for the size of the diesel ( compared to my Alfa 156 JTDM with a 1.9 diesel ).
He had it remapped and used it for a year or two: the remap made quite a difference.
He still has it but has run out of MOT and it may be scrapped !

I like that, you are just the man to tell me, how does the space compare to the xc ?
I would say it feels bigger inside than the XC, certainly in the rear seats anyway. I assume the boot space suffers slightly as a result but it's still bloody big, and a nice square/rectangular shape as well. They both have under boot floor storage too.
I think the biggest difference is with the XC you could feel it was a big car, it felt heavy and almost to soft (might just be the way the XC is sprung) but the Accord (from the limited driving I've done in it) seems a lot more normal, comfortable but firm enough.

I’ve always thought these looked like like good cheap reliable estate motoring for when my 156 V6 estate finally has an expensive failure.
Decent interior?
It's certainly worn well. I wouldn't put it in the same league as a bmw interior of that age, but it feels solid and like I said, looks amazingly good for its age. The only downside is the kind of click and feel you get from Japanese cars generally, they haven't quite got the soft touch of European cars, but at least you know they'll always work (apart from the sat nav)! Decent interior?
Crikey. I made the same move in December and I managed to also get a 2006 Accord EX for £500. Mine is also a 2.2 cdti and it has 212k miles on it. Drives spot on.
So far I have fitted an HiD kit, new fitted eBay car mats and a tuning box which has really woken the engine up a little and gives superb low down pull.

Wow, £500 for that? Where do I sign up?! That looks a brilliant shed for the money, and because it's a Honda you'll be able to run it on about 50p a year too... I may have to consider some shed swappery this year, I've never really noticed these Accord estates before or how cheap they are.
BTW, hope the Coronavirus clears up

The only thing that is a really minor downside to mine being pre facelift is no range or mpg display on the dash but it really isn't that big a deal.So far I have fitted an HiD kit, new fitted eBay car mats and a tuning box which has really woken the engine up a little and gives superb low down pull.
I'd quite like a tuning box but I don't want to jinx the clutch at this stage. I thought it was slipping a bit this morning when I was driving it, I actually just had my foot resting on the clutch pedal, phew!

Don't joke, I was a bit worried on Thursday, turns out it's just tonsilitis! BTW, hope the Coronavirus clears up
To be honest I think I got quite lucky with the £500 really. As I said, the guy who I bought it off works for Honda and his other car is an FK8 Type R so he really wasn't too bothered what he got for the Accord in the end.

I love that and it's a lot less sheddy than most of my sheds, but I think I'm too much of a coward to dare at that mileage (even though it's not a lot, really)...
Do you want to buy my Golf? It's only got 166k on the clock... tomble22 said:

Phew, So you're not too contagious then! To be honest I think I got quite lucky with the £500 really. As I said, the guy who I bought it off works for Honda and his other car is an FK8 Type R so he really wasn't too bothered what he got for the Accord in the end.
There's a sheddy Accord on Ebay at the moment for £400 with no MOT and similar mileage to yours but it looks a bit knackered.
The problem with shedding is it's better the devil you know. My Golf is currently fine, and I'm trying to get it 'Dirty winter cars' thread worthy. The practicalities of an estate mixed with a newly acquired child though...

Not to give you any unnecessary alternative shed ammunition, but the slabby rear end on the Accord is perfect for accumilating dirt. I took it out for about 30 miles this morning and it looks like I've just got back from the Paris Dakar! From the back anyway!
