DVLA V5C

On the DVLA I have just noticed that they have added a "Date of last V5C (logbook) issued" which I have never noticed before. I believe this has been added fairly recently. I thought I'd have a look at my dads previous motors that he owned through the years and when he sold them on; I assume this is when the vehicle has been transferred to a new one. However, I found it odd that alot of the dates didn't make sense, for instance, the VW Beetle he sold in about Spring or Summer 92, yet the DVLA states the last V5C issued was in Jan of that year. The car certainly wasn't gone by then, I don't think it was even for sale at that point let alone had a new owner. Untaxed comes up as Nov 92, which means the new owner didn't use it much until it was (presumably) scrapped, unless it had a new reg number.

Also, a Scimitar GTE 6a which he bought in the summer of either 2002 or 2003 (I'm fairly sure it was 2002), yet the DVLA records shows the V5C issued in Nov 2004. He was the last owner of the car before it was unfortunately scrapped in 2010. The untaxed date appears to be about right.

Abit odd about the dates. Seems like the DVLA are messing up.

Date of issue can refer to anything that means a new log book needs to be issued, such as change of address , change of reg number or change of taxation class for example

DVLA have also issues 2 I think was it changes of log books over the year's sue to changes of design's and whatnot perhaps one of these dates relate to these!

Seems rather confusing. I checked out one of my brothers first motors, a 1988 Fiesta which he bought in about Feb 97 and scrapped it (as far as I remember) in about Nov/Dec that year, apparently due to rot. The V5c issued gives it as Feb 97.

I was surprised to find a Landrover series 2 that my dad owned from 1990 to about 92 (which I would've thought bit the dust years ago) as still on the road, but weirdly, showing as a "Landrover 88" with about 30,000 miles. Likely it's just the reg thats been retained and transferred to a different Landrover.
