Budget Automatic

Looking for some help on this for my other half's brother.

He's deaf and also dyspraxic so struggles with a manual gearbox and has decided automatics would be the best option.

His budget is 2-3k, Looking for something petrol and automatic. Won't need to be anything fancy, reliability is probably most important as he's not bothered one bit about cars and it'll probably lead a minimal maintenance life.

The first decent option to me seems like a Honda Civic (06-11).

Any other ideas?

The civic is an automated manual box and I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. Jerky clutch engagement, electronic errors and slow clutch take up are some of the problems.

Go for a standard torque converter automatic, maybe an Astra, Octavia or VW Golf if you just want transport.

I agree with above, keep away from the Honda. I can also understand why someone with a hearing loss would prefer an automatic, one of our care homes went through 3 clutches in a manual Galaxy.

Depending on size i would look for a Kia Picanto, Hyundai i10, Suzuki Swift, Toyota Auris etc. I would avoid any DSG gearbox, any automatic / robatised manual etc ......

Nissan note 1.6 auto. Very reliable and cheap to run. Conventional torque convertor gearbox and cam chain engine. Reasonable kit in Tekna trim. Not the most economic and far from an exciting drive.

Thanks for the suggestions, I didn't realise the Civic auto was such a dog but that explains the good prices!

The Auris, Swift and Note seem like good options - not very PH mind you!
