long story. Bought a 4.8iS recently knowing it had cooling issues. Later figured out the water pump had gone, over heated and blown a head gasket - the steam was ridiculous and it was not started again.

Had it recovered to a fairly reputable BMW specialist who did some diagnostics. Presumably they thought I'd find it amusing by telling me the workshop filled with steam and now won't turn over. Place went bust.

At this point the engine had been taken out.

The original plan was to save this from the scrappy. And still is.

I am now seeking another N62 4.8 to put back in it but the 4.8 in the e53 Xs is specific to the e53.

Anyone know a decent BMW specialist who be trusted to:

- renew valve seals, valve cover gasket, coolant gaskets, transfer pipe etc on a replacement N62
- if the new engine is not from an e53, a fair few parts need to be swapped over from the original and header bolts re-drilled.
- put the engine back in

..around the mid-hampshire area?

cheers

Well I took my Z4 MC to RBM in Hook, Hants last week and was very happy with the service I got.

RBM only started up in November with Ross the principal doing all of the work himself, but he did work for Sytner for 15 years so has nothing but BMW and Mini experience.

As a fairly new venture I'm not sure if he would be up for something as major you are looking for, but if you don't ask you'll never know!

Anyway here is a link:- https://www.rbmhampshire.co.uk/

A bit further up and over the border, although Will and his mechanics are very good.

Lee Shannon at Bentley, just west of Farnham. Absolutely impeccable work, has worked on my all of Alpina's to the highest standard and has quite a few customers with X5's so knows them inside out.

Definitely, I've been going to TWG for the last 5 years or so with my BMWs and have always had great service.

But TWG have become so popular that you tend to find they can't get you booked in for a month or so.!

Terry at Alexander Autos in Portsmouth has always been brilliant for me. Has run a few of his own X5’s so knows them well.

Another vote for Will and his team, although as mentioned, he's very busy.
