my original Oxford Titan lock has finally failed. I'm going to bury it in the garden later.

Read a few reviews on the ones they're making now (squarer shape oxford) and i'm not inspired. who makes the best ones nowadays?

The heavier ABUS locks have a good reputation. Fairly pricey though.

I’d go for a padlock type disc lock now, Oxford boss or similar, had two conventional disc locks broken off last year.
When looking at the damaged ones you realise just how little effort they took to be broken off.

ABUS Granit Detecto 8008. I have it. I see no reasonable way of getting the thing off. Even an angle grinder would struggle as there is no way to get it in there. I guess they'd cut your disc if they still really wanted it.

Me too ... very confident with mine, especially at home with similar Abus chain and ground anchor. All I can do!

Have had an ABUS Alarmed one for about 5 years now, works fine, batteries last a couple of years. Need it to meet insurance requirements when out and about.

I have one of these too; it looks very substantial and well made.

Nice idea, but location of it requires regular maintenance to keep them from jamming. Also, trying to set the pin when locking it up/parking is hazardous at best imho as you need to rock it forward to get the pin to lock. Ymmv, but I prefer a traditional disclock.

Xena has worked well for me.

I like this, if it fits your disc. Very solid and no space for scrotes to get into. Cheap too

I really like the design and strength of these, but on Amazon reviews it seems they have a tendency to fall apart. Several comments about ball-bearings coming loose, and the locking section becoming detached. Think this happens when being attached though, rather than easily busted by thieves.

I use the shackled version* and it's a good solid lock. The 14mm hardened shckle will resist any bolt-cutters, but a disc grinder would get through more easily. This version you've linked looks like a great solution, thieves would have to get the cutting disc into a small, awkward gap, in two separate places.

None of them last more than a minute or so cutting with a rechargeable grinder....they really are to stop opportunists or to satisfy insurance requirements for additional security. Get one you can carry easily that makes a loud noise if moved, the majority are going to be "good enough" and better than the factory steering lock, which is really what they are compensating for.

Now if only manufacturers fitted a bit more of a beefy lock solution in the first place we wouldn't need disc locks smile

Interesting idea that one! Massive of course, but this is all compromise...

Not sure if it would actually fit on a motorcycle would it?

Yeah, Not sure it would fit on the disc...and kind of defeats the object of some easily portable, under the seat extra security LOL
