Help! iTunes library on NAS

Any help appreciated!
I have had my iTunes library stored on a Synology NAS for many many years with no issues.
Now for some reason, I have a problem.
If I add songs to a playlist in iTunes via macbook, they appear within iTunes in said playlists on the macbook. However, if I try to then synch my phone, those songs do not appear within the playlist on the phone.
They also do not appear within those playlists on Sonos after updating my music library.
If I add a new song to my collection via MacBook then synch phone/ update Sonos music library. The song appears on both. Again, add that song to a playlist. Synch/ update library. It doesn’t show up in the playlist?
My iTunes is very old. Over the years it has done some odd things with folder structure so I wonder if that has something to do with it. But it’s been fine in the past up until now.
Any ideas?
