Evening all.

I've got an F01 (2008) 730d and am looking for solutions for carrying 2 bikes.

The car doesn't have a tow bar but I can see little holes for a roof rack. For some reason, I have a problem with roof-mounted cycles but I think this is because I've not had any experience of using them and don't want to see them flying down the road..

So, ideally, I'd like to have something I can strap to the boot but the solutions seem limited for this body style and more meant for hatchbacks.

Any owners of a 7 that use them to take bikes?

Thanks!

If you have an aversion to roof mounted purely due to having not done it before then please try it!

Too much better than a boot mounted system thats held on with very little.

IF you get decent racks for the bikes such as the Thule ones then you can lock them onto the roof and then blast up the motorway or drive round corners like you're purposefully trying to crash and the bikes wont go anywhere!!

Boot mounted racks especially on a saloon will likely be wobbly and far from secure and thats before you mention the fact you'd be obstructing the number plate and lights so you'd technically need to fit a light board too

Part number for Genuine BMW ones. £180ish. Had Gen ones for my Mini and they were superb. Same price as the Thule ones too.

Hi,

I have same 7 series and bought the BMW roof rack from the local dealer. Fitted 2X adult bikes and a roof box to it and it lives in the garage (on and off in summer based on the event we are travelling to). Bike holders were £20 each from Halfords and work perfectly. Needs 2 people to lift it on and off but with the box, has negated the need for me to swap the car for an estate (2 small kids so I have a bike trailer I carry as well).

The bars don’t intrude and take 10 minutes to fix, they come with a BMW torque wrench to ensure the fit is perfect.

I would say go for roof mount as they are rated to 100Kg from BMW but feel a lot stronger.

Hope that helps!

Seasucker? Not used personally but they get great reviews.

Expensive way to achieve this I think.
