the clutch on my 996 TT works well but sometimes it feels kinda strange, it feels heavier and not as smooth. It works fine still and there is no judder etc but it just sometimes does this? anyone else have that happen? any ideas what it could be?

Cheers

I had this problem with my 993tt, it turned out to be a faulty slave cylinder.

A couple of months ago my clutch made a clicking sound every time it was depressed, got quite annoying. It did it for about 2 weeks & then just stopped.
So maybe it will just pass, but certainly if it persists it needs looking at.
I have noticed that my clutch feels different depending on which shoes I am wearing! I know that sounds very odd, but when I wear my work shoes (quite thin soles) then the clutch feels very different to when I wear my CAT boots or trainers, both very thick soled. I kinda get more “feel” when wearing thin soled shoes & can feel the clutch working – if that sounds strange then sorry but thought I would mention it!! For me it is noticeable to the point that I think the clutch feels “odd” but then realize why.

Could be a number of things - the whole clutch mechanism has a number of parts which can be worn/faulty, and cause noises etc, but at the end of the day the clutch feels heavy then then the chances are it might need to be replaced. A clutch doesn't need to be slipping to indicate that it should be replaced...maybe get a mechanic to drive it and give you an opinion.

Cheers, I got RSR to test it and he said it seems fine - maybe it is the slave cylinder - I will get this checked out if it persists. The clutch is fairly new according to RSR so hoping its not that otherwise its going to hurt my bank account.. ;-(

TG if you do have to have any repairs to the clutch I'd do as i did and have the X50/GT2 internals fitted.

Cheers, good idea especially as it is running the same tweak as yours so could do with being a bit stronger!

fingers crossed it will just go away rather than hit me with a nice fat bill

I think the 996TT has the same clutch system as my 993TT, with hydraulic assistance from the main hydraulic system that deals with steering assistance, etc. If so the slave cylinder is quite an expensive bit of kit (I seem to recall 700€ so £500 odd for the part, though fortunately it was my master that was shagged so didn't need to buy it) and a bugger to fit as access is a bastard with it sitting on top of the box.

Hopefully it's just the master cylinder, as that's a doddle to fit and costs very little. I have read recommendations to do an occasional bleed of the system as the hydraulic fluid in the line to the slave gets kecked up and dirty.

Would also recommend that you check the level in clutch reservoir (front compartment, passenger side) and the main hydraulic reservoir (in the back with the oily bits - driver's side on a 993TT, dunno for yours), topping up with Pentosin CHF11S (caveat - this is for my car - check your manual) as necessary. In theory your clutch could feel heavier when you have full lock on as the steering assistance will be letting through a high flow of hydraulic fluid, reducing available pressure.

Thanks Nel, thats very helpful of you I will check all those bits in the morning. I checked the price of a slave cylinder and its £707 fitted as OPC Reading say it takes 4.1 hours to fit.. cosmic!! anyway I will check the levels tomorrow and also then ask for the master to be checked first.

If the clutch was on the way out I think it would feel different to this but it drives so smoothly apart from the notchy feeling every now and again.

Fingers crossed it will be something simple. Thanks again
